I suppose that a certain number of soldiers would be captured, just from normal statistical odds. But I can’t help wondering if it says something about the Russian military’s level of competence, that even their special forces are getting captured. ---

From history, holding prisoners of war seems to have been a fairly large burden on the capturer. I’d wonder if one thing that Europe could do, to help, without triggering Russia to escalate would be to offer to take Russian soldiers who were captured and take care of them. ---

I kept wondering why we aren’t seeing video of captured soldiers of either side (other than one clip of two Russian POWs that I think has been verified). By now there have to be a fair number of prisoners. Then I remembered that, per Geneva Convention, you aren’t allowed to film POWs and make it public. I’m just going on memory here but it’s a basic enough human right that I didn’t even look it up. It’s a good thing that neither the Russians nor the Ukrainians are, AFAICT, using images of POWs for propaganda/humiliation/threats. But maybe I’m wrong and I’m just not seeing the pix. Now I’m wondering what the Geneva Conv. has to say about a capturing army filming POWs but _not_ making it public. ---

Yeah, the Ukrainians really shouldn’t be having to spare the food and medical stuff to take care of all these Russian POWs Sergeant York-style. Have Romania and Poland take them in, treat them nicely, make them into EU-ers. ---

Always thought the Rouble sounded too close to “rubble” to be a trustworthy currency. Interest rate raised to 20%. Currency recovers. For now. Unless uncle Xi bails them out they are in for a world of hurt. > ---

Russians have started committing some of the heavy hitters, Su-34 the star (or terror) of Syria is in action in Kharkiv. It can carry over 10,000 kg of Ordnance and can operate in heavily contested airspace, which parts of Ukraine are. > ---

Beyond that now. The Fullback is the aircraft the Russians used in Syria where they expected heavy ground fire. Its absence in Ukraine was puzzling and suggests their intel was off as to enemy capabilities.
