Did I misread your post, in the sense that you are ok with Finland and Sweden joining NATO, as long as it’s considered very carefully? I didn’t see anything in Velocity’s post indicating that he believes the decision should be made in a careless or haphazard manner. From what I’ve read, all the relevant parties have taken / are taking the decision seriously. If you think that the relevant parties (the governments of Finland, Sweden, and the NATO governing body) are in fact not being careful with this decision, I’d be happy to look at those sources. ---

I think that the Russian troops threatened with execution if they return to Russia are not going to be all that keen to go back into the fight against Ukraine. And they’re not going to be all that keen on Mother Russia into the future either. Just when you think Putin can’t screw this war up any more… ---

Actually, the Russians have been known to shoot retreating Russian troops, too. They don’t treat their own much, if any, better. ---

I doubt they would have come first without the added public sympathy vote but the song is pure Eurovision anyway. Moldova also did very well in the public vote with its “Ramones meet Madness and have a polka baby” entry, which was probably less about regional politics and more about the unabashed goofiness of it. ---

Ukrainian troops pose at Russian border. I realize that’s just _one area_ of the border. It’s still quite an achievement from having Russians in the outskirts of Kharkiv a few weeks ago. The real test for Ukraine is the fighting for Severodonetsk. Can the Western artillery and other weapons prevent its capture? I see this battle as a pivotal moment.
