Fair enough. I just thought it was a little too spot on to be real. I guess I’m flabbergasted. It’s the equivalent of an Army recruitment ad in 2003 saying if you join the Army you’ll be able to kill all the [insert derogatory and wholly offensive reference to arabs here] you want. ---

Russian media features plenty of open advocacy for genocide against Ukrainians, along with heaping helpings of colonial racism and imperialist delusions of grandeur. That ad is super tame. ---

Russia is a fascist state and they talk openly and freely about committing genocide every day on their TV discussion shows. It’s shocking, almost unbelievable, what they say, but the daily repetition makes it routine. It really is like Nazi Germany over there. Reading about Nazi Germany, the question keeps recurring in my head: “how did this happen?”. I get the same question when I read/watch the discourse of Russia today. ---

The BBC made a independent review of the Ukraine counter offensive. They used geolocated video and photos to verify Russian and Ukrainian positions. Here’s a fascinating video on how Ukraine is using drones with thermal sensors to locate land mines. I’m not sure this method would work in the winter but given the right conditions seems to take a lot of guesswork out of walking through minefields.
