# Russia invades Ukraine -- The regional situation

Slovakia is in the [Balkan Peninsula](https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/balkan-countries.html). Saying that “the Balkan region [is] unstable” is kind of like observing that rain is wet, hence the common term “balkanization” to refer to a fragmentation of interests and internecine conflict.
