Russian politician Aleksei Zhuravlyov is threatening to kidnap, try, and execute Democratic Congressman Ruben Gallego because of Gallego’s calls for action against any Russian incursion into Ukraine. I though Russians were currently into [obscure radioactive isotopes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Litvinenko#Poisoning_and_death) and [nerve agents](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novichok_agent#Instances_of_usage) for assassinations, not so much axes or other flamboyant and messy techniques. ---

But the spin we are choosing to put on it is “democracy” vs. “authoritarianism,” so we can’t respond back the same way. Russia is testing the US’s resolve right now, after Trump would just give in on everything. And, yes, I’m pulling all of this from Beau of the Fifth Column and his generally accurate predictions about how we’re gunning up for Cold War 2.0, aka a near peers battle. We’ve retired the War on Terror framing for now.
