Ryder Cup

Tiger has won the WGC Match Play 3 times, but those were a long time ago.

Tiger has a pretty good record in the Presidents Cup, 24-15-1

And he won three straight US Amateurs which are conducted at Match Play

Fair enough. I had remembered him winning only two US Amateurs for some reason. I haven’t watched the Presidents Cup in awhile. I imagine the pressure isn’t anywhere near the Ryder Cup at its peak. Do the International home courses have a similar layout and setup to the Euro courses, or is more towards the usual PGA “tee it high, and let it fly” setup?

Even when Tiger was Tiger, I don’t remember him crushing souls in the Ryder Cup the way he did on Tour or in the majors, circa 1999-2002. 2-3 in 1999 at The Country Club in Massachusetts, 2-2-1 in 2002 at The Belfry, or 2-3 during the 2004 asskicking at Oakland Hills. Not quite the same form as the guy who won the 2000 US Open by 15 shots.

Patrick Reed criticizes Furyk’s decisions and ensures he will never be a captain’s pick in the future.

Better yet, word is now out that Koepka and DJ not only fought at the after-party (along with their respective gf’s), but possibly were in an altercation on the team plane on the way TO Paris last week.

Team spirit, gotta love it.

That’s odd - I don’t read a bunch of the personal stuff, but I thought Koepka and DJ were workout buddies at least.

I remember a few (many?) cycles back, when players were complaining about not getting paid for the Cup. Don’t mean to tar current players w/ the same brush, but it MAY be relevant to their attitude.

It’s just funny seeing an august, prestigious golf tournament using the same ethics and logic as some deadbeat artist’s patron seeking to duck out of paying the fees for the artistic services they’d commissioned.

Tiger had a point. Wonder how much NBC Sports Group paid for the broadcast rights? Surely the players could dip into that pool a little? And then there’s Ryder Cup branded gear…

It says here -

  • that the US players get $200k donated on their behalf. But must agree, it’s not a lot in the scheme of things and I can’t see a good reason why they shouldn’t get paid.

Which begs the question, why do they play? The Olympics didn’t have prize money, and most top players didn’t bother with that.*

  • Zika my arse.
