Here’s another British white guy that sounds black.
The Crazy World of Arthur Brown whose big hit was “Fire” way back in 1968.

I thought Seal was white. That little girl that was on NBC’s talent show (forgot the name of it) sounded black when she sang.
Mose Allison was the ORIGINAL not black guy, and an awesome jazz musician to boot. Jet Magazine called him wanting to interview him, and were surprised to find out he wasn’t black.
He’s still not black.
Eddie Hinton, the White Otis Redding. Click on ‘Shout Bamalama.’ Hell, click on all the tunes.
Now that I’m thinking about it, I should have realized Eliot Sloan wasn’t white by the lyric:
She likes me for me
Not because I look like Tyson Beckford
With the charm of Robert Redford
That should have tipped me off, but no.

No - I think he meant that Norah Jones is half white because her mom is white (I think - not sure) and her dad is obviously Indian…
FWIW, Indians from India are Caucasian.
How? If anything, they’re Asian.
Ooops. I started a highjack without even trying. Lemme try to re-rail. I thought Niclole Ritchie was black even after I saw her.
I’d give that award to Jack Teagarden. A lot of folks thought he had to have some black blood in him, based on how he sounded.
They’re much more closely related to European Caucasians than to East Asians. But we can split the difference and agree that they’re caucasian but not white…is that okay?
I thought she was biracial.
I remember exactly where I was when I first saw the video for Michael Bolton “Sittin on the Dock of the Bay”. My friend and I were quite skeptical until Michael started singing and then looked at each other agape. He didn’t sound black exactly but he didn’t embarrass himself either.
Wow, you learn something new every day! I thought she was mixed-race.
My mind amalgamated that song with “I Believe” and thought
Oh how he would lose it then but she’s still here with me
Cause she believes that love will see it through
And one day he’ll understand
And he’ll see me as a person and not just a black man
would probably tip you off
Probably because she is. Well, depending how you look at it.
Teena is my GIRL!
singing “Square Biz”
I used to think Tasmin Archer, who had the one-hit wonder “Satellites”, was white. She’s black and British.
And count me in as another person who thought Dusty Springfield was black. Well, only in that song “Son of a Preacher Man”. She sounds white in her other songs.
I used to think Al Yankovitch was black, back when I was a kid. Not because of his voice, but because he looks kinda like a really light-skinned brother with a jherri curl.
Noting, of course, there are those who consider “Caucasian” to be an awfully convenient description of some (on the whole) mighty black looking people.
Then, again, we can say the same thing about some atypical looking “African-Americans” and “blacks”
Rick Astley, Britney Spears… All my guesses are already here.
For a while though, I thought Ali G was really black. I’m pretty slow.
I only found out recently that Louis Prima wasn’t black.
ELMO…guess, before you click the URL.

Another artist I thought was white: Skye from trip-hop group Morcheeba. (She’s black and British.)
