I had a good time at the not-so-mini-Dopefest. It’s great to meet and greet Dopers IRL. **Kat Lady** ’s sons are adorable; I especially liked the younger, not-yet-a-Doper, waiting on the Internet one. I had met **Snooooopy** and **White Lightening** at a BAD last year and it was fun to meet **Kat Lady** and **Tristan** and his fiancee and also **Harmonix** and **Zenster** , most dashing of Dopers in his Stetson. Are those Sac dwellers Kings fans or what!?
I’d run up to our state’s capitol to eat cornish pasties with them anytime.

Paaaaasties.

Man, I had a really good time. Thanks for coming out everyone! Thanks especially to **Zenster** for the ride, standing us all the first round, and the conversation on the ride back.

Man, those fish and chips were really brilliant. Too bad about the Kings, and the band. But I thought the venue was really excellent, and thanks again to **Tristan** for, if not organizing, then at least inspiring the get-together (plus our waitress was so accomodating, and cute too). It was superb to meet **Tristan** , **Kat Lady** and fam, and **Harmonix** , and **Zenster** of course, and to see **Drachillix** , **Cyn** , and **Snoop** again.

Cheers BADs and SADs!

Back at 'cha, **WL**!

And what a time it was. The ever-perceptive **White Lightning** had such ultimate good taste as to agree upon a lunch at my favorite Mexican restaurant in Bezerkeley. His familiarity with La Fiesta’s menu stood him in good stead as I went on to scoff down the mandatory _sopa de pollo con arroz_, a mixed pair of _flautas_ and the traditional beef taco. Since our meal was _sin cerveza_, I proceeded to give him the old geezer’s tour of Telegraph Avenue as we made our way down to the (shockingly) closed Bison Microbrewery. As time was growing short, we resolved to bypass the always-dependable and nearby Triple Rock Brewery so as to ensure sufficient uninterrupted guzzling time in Aggieville.

Bezerkeley’s disappointments only further increased our resolve to hit the Hubsch Sudwerk in Davis. With not a whit’s disappointment we gleefully swilled some of the d@mn best Pilsner and Helles (fine) lager either of us had tasted in donkey’s ears. Meandering our way out of Cowtown, we managed to avoid the Preadolescent Pickup Pilot™. I excrete you not. You could almost hear the telephone book pages flapping from underneath the _derierre_ of this prepubescent lad who was _at the wheel of a full size pickup truck that passed in front of us_. I doubt this kid had ever even tasted his first coffee, yet steering a half ton truck he was. We mopped our brows and began rocketing over the Yolo flats on our way towards Sacka-Tomatoes.

Its always fun to attach faces to screen names from the SDMB and the Sacto Mini Dope was no letdown. One Ploughman’s Repast, replete with pickled onions (not to mention pickled Dopers) and a pair of Celtic Rolls (bangers in a coverlet) later the conversation was really beginning to sparkle. **Harmonix** made the scene and a while later **Cyn** and **Drachillix** popped up on the old radar screen. By the time a final head count was conducted it was roundly agreed that this was, in fact, a fully fledged Dopefest[sup]®[/sup]. We’ll ignore how I got my poor widdle bitty heart broken to smithereens when the ever-so-rare **Whitbread Pale Ale** was served up to me flatter than piss on a platter. The service kissed and made up with a perfectly acceptable pint of **Harp Lager**.

Eric-the-half-a-band started setting up and simultaneously made a shambles of their sound gear. Who knew that an amplifier was a percussion instrument as well? A brief constitutional over to the proximate and outlandish-cover-charge-demanding **Old Ironsides** bar found us scurrying back to **The Fox and Goose** for (lack of) cover. Saaaaay … we never did get to goose any foxes. [note to self: Dis **Tristan** severely on this subject!] Despite a gaping ten point lead two short minutes before game’s end, the King’s still managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in double overtime. I somehow offered my own (not so) scrawny neck up for a lynching by shouting out a passable Mickey Mouse style, “That’s all folks!” And so it was, that with tears in our eyes we slowly began to wander off into the (long ago finished) sunset.

And that was the Sacramento Mini Dope that was.

Special props to **Tristan** and his lovely lady for planning the entire donnybrook.

Oh! I left out my near collision on the way home with a honking big piece of 4’ x 4’ sheet metal that went sparking and skittering across the freeway after another vehicle struck it less than 50’ in front of my car.

Missed it by that much, Chief.]

Whoa! Glad I missed that part!

Just to confirm: both the Helles and the Pilsner at the Sudwerks brewery in Davis were damn fine beers; the kid driving the truck was truly no more than 13 years of age; the ‘band’ at the F&G was fairly untalented; I do have good taste.

Can’t wait for the next one.

I am SO sorry! My computer has been broken and gone for the last two weeks so I missed the reminders I put on there. I suddenly sat up at 9:00 on the night of the meeting and shouted “Son of a B\*\*\*\*!!”.

Maybe next time.

I feel like such a twit.
