I’m sure he did, but the really sad thing (from an actors perspective anyway) is that now he won’t get any royalites when they re-air it or sell DVDs.
This actualy has happned to a couple of actor friends of mine over the years. They filmed High Profile movies (most recent;y, somebody was in Road to Perdition), got paid, but the got cut entirely.
Supposedly if you are in ONE FRAME, you still get your cut of royalties, but if not,
The Electronic Frontier Foundation, which is a group against corporate lawyers suing fan sites and the like, is going to stage some sort of party to raise funds. Wil Wheaton, a supporter, will be there, and fight a man in a Barney suit-a tribute to a famous Internet battle.
Although I don’t know if Wil will be mangled and/or killed.
My point was that both characters were specifically created to pander to what the producers thought their target audience wanted; and in both cases, they proved to be the most unpopular characters. Of course, the producers eventually figured out what their typical viewer really wanted; hence the eventual appearance of Jeri Ryan in a catsuit, Carrie Fisher in a harem dress, and Natalie Portman in tights. By the time Enterprise was aired, they had even figured it out to the point where they hired Jolene Blalock and incorporated large breasts in the series right from the beginning.
Hey I have never been much of a Wesley Crusher fan but that is Roddenberry’s fault not Wheaton’s. Had he been written right it could have been a good character but that is water under the bridge.
The guy was obviously enthused about getting a part in the movie and I think it kinda sucks to have that pulled out from under him like that. He deserves better than that. I hope his material shows up on the DVD I for one will want to watch it.
I’m surprised at the people being nasty about this news though.
Wil if you are lurking out there don’t worry most real fans know the difference between a real person acting and a character they are portraying. Hang in there You’ll get your chance again with Trek someday I’m sure.
I used to work with his brother in Glendale, California, in the IT department of a worker’s comp company. He didn’t talk much about his brother, but is a very cool guy himself. Extremely intelligent.
If Wesley isn’t in the movie then the Enterprise is doomed for sure! He must have saved the ship a dozen times during his brief tenure on board.
Anyway, didn’t he evaporate into the nth dimension with his friend The Traveler?
Eh, as long as the movie itself as good and the adhere to the timeline I don’t really care about him. Although I never watched the show until I caught it in reruns so it was never an issue with me.
True. But so was every other person on that show except for Data and Jordi. And maybe Crusher, although I find her very alluring so I’m quite partial I’m sure.
I won’t miss the Wesley scenes on the DVD. Wesley Crusher was a poorly conceived and poorly written character.
Wil Wheaton, of course, is a good guy. I always recognized that the crappiness of Wesley was due primarily to bad writing, not bad acting (Hint #1: Never have the kids saving the adult’s asses. Hint #2: Don’t do it several times).
