Heh well I don’t get easily offended. I have the feeling you don’t get what man movies are all about. I doesn’t have to be a war movie, a western, or a buddy cop drama for it to be a man movie. It has to be something that gets the 'ole testosterone flowing. ---

This thread is giving me flashbacks to SNL’s fake “Man Channel” commercials… 24 hours of explosions, cars driving off cliffs, explosions, cars exploding while they drive off cliffs, more explosions… 😃 The end of T2 was pretty sad. Especially since you find out that the future’s gonna happen anyway. The sacrifice was totally meaningless. ☹ ---

Heh. Holy shit, I can’t believe I missed **Darkhold** nominating _In the Beginning_. I can’t believe I didn’t think of it right away myself. Damned if I didn’t tear up a bit just re-reading that speech. So I’m adding in the new _Battlestar: Galactica_ miniseries, when the Cylon scout finds the refugee fleet before they can transfer all the people off the ships with no FTL drives, and they have to abandon them just as the Cylon warfleet jumps in and fires a barrage of nukes at 'em. And the people they’re leaving behind are cursing them over the comm channels. Damn! That was some ballsy TV. Oh, and **Lamar** , you didn’t offend me only because I know how terribly, terribly wrong you are. ---

**Darkhold** And had you mentioned it was Babylon 5 related, **LamarMundane** would have immediately said it would be incredibly NOT a guy’s movie. (I have never seen a Babylon 5 episode or movie so the reference was totally lost on me too). ---

Not the manliest moments in manly movies. It only turned into a sci/fi wankfest when you said sci/fi wasn’t manly and counter examples were provided. Before that there was a nice assortment of different types of movies. :rolleyes: As for humor or hyperbole there’s ways to disagree with someone without being an ass. Heck I disagree with about three people a day and I don’t think many of them take it personally. ---

I believe George Kostanza (or however it’s spelled) once got a little teary over Spock too. They were just discussing the movie in passing while leaving Jerry’s apartment and George suddenly fills up: “… that was a hell of a thing, when Spock died…” There were several Futurama moments which I considered violations of the comedy-tragedy neutral zone. The one about Fry’s brother was one - but the one where he decides not to revive his fossilised dog, because it had lived out its life happily without him, and then the closing credits show the dog had waited the rest of its life for him to return… GAHHHH… The death of Trinity in _Matrix Revolutions_ was behind the biggest suppressed giggle in my time visiting cinemas. Half the cinema could be heard trying not to laugh - weirdest sound ever, kind of like a vacuum cleaner in reverse. Totally unexpected comedy. _My Dog Skip_ was very sad. I remember my father telling me that _Shane_ was actually dead as he rode into the distance. He’d watched that film with me a dozen times but had decided I was now old enough to know the truth. Messed me up good, that did, whether it was true or not. Thanks dad. The end of _Purple Rose of Cairo_ can be very depressing if you watch it in the right frame of mind. **Biggirl** , you may tell your son and husband that somewhere in Scotland there’s a short hairy man who definitely didn’t cry at the end of _The Iron Giant_ either. No. Not a bit of it. Stupid… soppy… hold on, I just have something in my eye… Actually my dad also insisted that we watch _Casablanca_ without the “start of a beautiful friendship” closing scene, because he considered it an unwarranted addition or something (he was like that). Anyway without that scene it’s kind of a choker too. Meanwhile, back in the real world, I can’t believe we got through three movies and I didn’t get to see ONE DEAD HOBBIT! Death of Obi-Wan… I grew up watching that every Christmas, and it never actually got through to me. It just set off endless playground debates on what actually happened to you if you touched a light sabre - did you disappear immediately, or what? However last night it did occur to me that Princess Leia was remarkably sympathetic to Luke’s loss of his very-recently-acquired best buddy, considering her HOME PLANET had just been completely blown into a million trillion bits, and nobody’d said so much as “um… sorry to hear about your planet, by the way, Leia. And your auntie. And your next door neighbour. And all your friends. And your favourite television presenter. And everybody else. Now away and put a blanket round Luke’s shoulder’s, the wee man just had a terrible loss.” In fact that probably deserves its own thread. ---
