# Safer -- Public or Private Schools

In America are public or private schools safer? This would be in reagard to crime, injuries, etc.

IMHO, it would depend on the location of both schools. Some public schools are extremely unsafe and others are perfectly fine; private schools can be like that, too.

I would agree with **Caesar’s Ghost** , while public schools in general have a bad reputation, most are perfectly fine, while the drug-ridden and crime-infested ones are mostly in poor neighborhoods and inner cities (and even then, the situation seems to have improved a lot since the 1970s and 1980s.) Private schools will tend to be better equipped and secure as it is easier for them to expell troublemakers and since crime is less common among the wealthier folks who can afford to go there. But they will still often have the same problems of violence, gangs and hazing as any other school.
