There actually were some scenes where “little people” (my apologies if this is the wrong term), were used in LoTR. Not many, and generally for distance shots. One, though that was blatantly obvious to me, is when Bilbo is about to board the last ship. When he has his back to camera, that’s a little person. ---

There’s a fair bit about the doubles on the dvd extras, but that’s the only one I remember right now. ---
