Another thread brought up fond, misty memories of the late, beloved [Sam](http://samugliestdog.com/), the World’s Ugliest Dog. Linking led me to the most recent [Ugly Dog Contest](http://www.sonoma-marinfair.org/uglydogvote.shtml) . . . Yikes. All I can say is yikes. And “jeepers.” Archie, I served with Sam the Ugly Dog, I knew Sam the Ugly Dog, Sam the Ugly Dog was a friend of mine. Archie, you are no Sam the Ugly Dog. ---

In Yellowknife at Caribou Carnival (spring), there is an ugly truck and dog contest. One year, a Vietnamese Pot-Belly pig won. ---

OMG, what is it with those dogs and the tongues hanging out??? I’m glad there are folks that can love dogs like that, cuz I couldn’t. ☹ ---

I was enjoying the stories of the naturally ugly dogs, but I felt really bad for the ones whose ugliness stems from disease. Minnie and Victoria are so sad, and several of them have no teeth! ---

This really is a wonderful gallery. Note that many of the dogs have their tongues sticking out of their closed mouths like they suffer some kind of lingual palsy. Does this condition come with the “ugly”? ---

I dunno…Victoria looks like a pretty close runner up. My best friend wants to get one of these ugly little rat-like substances. I dread the day she asks if she can bring him over. My overly cute cats won’t be able to tolerate that level of ugly. And neither will I! ---

It cannot be done; as breeds all over the world are refined and made more handsome and noble-looking, the Ugly _must go somewhere,_ because the quantity of Ugly in the universe is a constant. Unfortunately for the Chinese Crested dog, they have been chosen to receive the Ugly that has been bred out of other lines. ---

Why was Oscar in an Ugly Dog contest? Pugs are not ugly. Sure they have the squashed nose and bug eyes, but at least they look like dogs and not a failed experiment by Dr. Moreau. ---
