There is no double standard. ABC fired Roseanne because its head wanted to fire her. Not because she was pressured to. Just because Employer X fires an employee for an offense does not mean that Employer Y should be obligated to do the same thing. That is nuts. Conservatives don’t want to be lumped in with racists and bigots. “WE ARE DIVERSE INDIVIDUALS!!” they cry. OK, but so says the entertainment world. The leadership at ABC is not the same as the leadership at TBS. Finally, no one in the Trump family should be asking for an apology over anything. Not until Trump apologizes for the million insults and false accusations he’s levied against others over the years. Until that happens, fuck Trump and Ivanka’s feelings. She knew what she was doing when she used the term. She needed publicity for her failing show, and even bad publicity is better than no publicity. With advertisers deserting her though this may have the opposite effect and kill her show dead. We can but hope. She and Roseanne are the exact equivalents, the ugly face of extremity at either end of the scale. ---

Samantha should keep calling Ivanka feckless, but replace the offensive word. Such as “feckless human Ivanka”, or “feckless biped Ivanka” or even “feckless future felon Ivanka.” ---

Absolutely, one major difference between this and Rosanne, is this went through a HELL of a lot more green lights before it got on air, and is not even a live show, which would have been more excusable. They’re “apologizing profusely” now, but NOBODY questioned this before it got on the air? Nobody? Doesn’t seem genuine. Note: I’m not for cancelling shows and boycotts in general, but if it’s going to hurt the companies, sure. Do what you have to to do to save the bottom line. I think Rosanne probably should have been prohibited from tweeting as part of her contract with ABC. This is NOT the first offensive tween she’s ever done. ---

Of course, if this gives the show a ratings boost then they may be more easily replaced. From a business standpoint, I’m sure Bee’s show is much less expensive to produce than Barr’s was so it may be more resilient to those market factors. ---

Sorry, no, that’s a misrepresentation of the complaint against Barr. People were angry at her because of her grotesque racism, not because she used naughty language. If you want to argue that using the word “cunt” should get someone kicked off TV, fine, but if I disagree with you, I’m not a hypocrite for still thinking Barr deserved to get the boot for being a racist. I’m completely convinced and on board! Let’s take this as a teaching moment and suspend Sam Bee for one show, and bring Ivanka to justice under corruption laws.
