I know a retired attorney with the last name Wills. Too bad that wasn’t his area of practice. He had a lot of kids though, and his kids had a lot of kids, so I’m holding out hope. ---

My partner had a childhood dentist named Dr. Freeze and a high school lit teacher named Warren Peace. For a couple of years in the 1970s the Vancouver phone book had a listing for a Rection, Hugh G., but I have no idea what his job was. And it may have been aspirational, but I knew a policeman named Officer Fair. My brother, on the other hand, received a ticket from an Officer Keen. ---

That reminds me, we had a guy in B(ravo) Company down at Ft. Hood with the last name Major. When he got promoted from Specialist to Sergeant, it caused some…confusion. ---

Well, not a job exactly, but I once wrote a ton of book reviews, some positive, many quite critical. My name, which has been known here for some time, is Carper. When I was a teen I wrote to many authors that I liked, all of whom were kind enough to write me back. Fred Dannay, half of Ellery Queen, wrote in response, " I hope you’re not putting us on with that surname." ---

I used to fly with a guy whose last name was Pilot. In USAF I knew a guy with the last name Major. He was only a Captain (O-3) though when I knew him. I don’t know what rank he ever achieved. ---

I resisted this thread the first time around, but enough time has passed, most have died and I think it’s fine to share. Worked with a lawyer named Law. Worked with judges with the following names: Hammer, Money and (my personal favorite) Ream. ---

There were two maths teachers at my high school Room doors right next to each other so the name tags for their rooms were one above the other on the wall. Rm 44 **Frye** Rm 45 **Bacon** We kids got a giggle out of that. Neither were short order cooks. Alas. Miss Poole was my children’s swim teacher/coach ---

You’d expect a pitcher named Junk to throw a lot of slow curves, sliders and changeups, but [this guy’s](https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=junk--000jan) go-to pitch is his fastball. \*it’s never good when the ERA for your last MLB call-up is “inf” (for infinity). ---

My fifth grade teacher’s name was Mr. Workmeister. As fourth graders we all dreaded getting into his class the next year. There were horror stories about hours and hours of homework, severe punishments, and harshly graded assignments. He turned out to be a very good teacher and didn’t live up to the hype, though he was stingy about giving A’s. ---
