Ok, at this point I can understand her usage of sanitary napkins, but not the tampons. I was aware of all her medical issues, and she had none in that area. So why would an elderly woman use tampons?
The anatomy picture in post #14 only represents normal anatomy. Sometimes the urethral opening is a lower, it can exit into the vaginal canal. This can make a woman more prone to urinary tract infections, and harder to put a catheter in (ask me how I know). I suppose a tampon would be effective for minor incontinence in such a case, but still not as effective as a pad.

Actually tampons make a good triage bandage for any gunshot entry wound.
