> [@SantoRuggersMom](#): > > Pat is intentionally voicing according to the speech therapist. He definitely is making it known that he doesn’t like it when we move him too quickly! He is really working hard to follow commands. Looks like he’s starting to reconnect.. It’s really exciting! That is very exciting! ---

Just wanted to check in with everyone and say hello! Pat continues to fight to get better. He is much more alert and responsive some days. Other days he’s fatigued and it’s more difficult for him to respond. We continue to challenge him as much as we can. We know we are on the right track, as confirmed by his new doctor. She is a neuropsychiatrist. She really feels that pushing him both physically and mentally is the path we should be on. I am working to help Pat put on his own chapstick. He’s not quite there, but we keep trying. Also, we’ve taken on as our mantra - We live to fight another day. (“Wiki it”, as Pat told me time after time when I asked him a question.) It fits because we often have to withdraw because we are so exhausted, but we get back up the next day and try our best. Pat is beginning to squint towards the light - an indication that his pupils are beginning to react. Also the gag reflex comes and goes, so we’re working on that. Thanks so much to all of you for your continued support. I know that you all know what a magnificent brain Pat started out with; our goal is to help him get back to being Pat. We know it could take a decade or more, but by God we’ll fight with him every step of the way! ---
