Zel Miller voted for it, and that’s no surprise. He’s a Democrat simply out of spite at this point. He’s voted almost 100% with the Republicans down the line his entire time polluting the Senate. He’s even going to speak that the Republican clan rally in September. I would also give one of Binarydome’s balls to have had McCain be president. He woulda won in a landslide against Gore in 2000, I’d imagine. The GOP let the cloture vote fail in part because there would have been as many as **twelve** defections had the actual measure come to the ballot, including Snowe, Chaffee, Lugar, Collins, McCain, Warner, Gregg, Hagel and others. Even with three turncoat Democrats on their side, that’d put the GOP’s support at 42 votes, a staggering, humiliating defeat. They didn’t want that. Better to fail on a procedural vote, so that they could complain that the Democrats didn’t let the issue be voted on, than be crushed on the vote itself. ---

Santorum on gay marriage? Tragic! When a simple enema could avoid an akward moment on a special day. If only the senator it was named for was so easy to get rid of. ---
