You’d be hard pressed to find any Scandinavian who doesn’t know English. It’s a required course in public (and I assume private) schools. 😉 Benny and Bjorn have said that learning English as a foreign language actually helped them compose lyrics for their songs, since they felt free to use word combinations that might never have occurred to a native speaker. **Addendum:** When I heard “crossed the Rio Grande,” I immediately thought of Pancho Villa. The Mexican War of 1846-48 is now so obscure I doubt many Americans even know about it. ---
