On preview, I suppose I should amend the claim in my earlier post to include technology in the equation. Stupidity + technology to spread said stupidity with unprecedented ease is a recipe for trouble. End of the republic? Not likely. Enough to get Sarah Palin elected president in 2012? Somewhat likely. More likely than I am comfortable with. YMMV. ---

I’m not afraid of Palin, I’m afraid of what she represents: a celebration of ignorance, willful or nonchalant. A world where lying to make a point is encouraged, where fear to claim a victory is demanded, where the mundane is politically sexy. I’m no more afraid of Palin than I am of, I don’t know, Twilight. Actually, that works. Palin is the Twilight candidate. ---

She scares me the same way Al Sharpton does or Ron Paul, or Ross Perot. Which is to say “I am scared that there is an audience for the stupidity.” You know who scares me as a liberal - Huckabee. He has the folksy charm of Bush, the populism of Clinton, and is savvy. ---

Sarah Palin scares me in the same way my cat scares me when I put scotch tape over his paws. Sure, it makes me laugh, and it does break my heart just a little bit to see the poor bastard freaking out, sputtering and acting like an utter moron, but damn, if that’s not some fine entertainment. 2012 nomination? A roll of scotch tape? It’s all the same to me. ---

To those Democrats who support a Palin 2012 ticket: 1. Sure, she probably won’t win, but so long as she’s on the ticket the chances of this happening remain greater than zero. Are you willing to accept that risk? I’m not. 2. Are you so sure Obama can’t beat a more competant Republican? ---
