Looks like. I’m not sure if you should be busying yourself with getting a restraining order or getting a trousseau.
ETA: KIDDING! Put down that tire iron!
Please try to feel that way about it. Yes, it’s true that sexual involvement between young adults and mature minors doesn’t automatically HAVE to be a bad thing (and that doesn’t automatically depend on the age/gender allocation, either: I still feel pretty smug about having dated my 24-ish former physics teacher the summer I was 17, and I don’t think it hurt my psychological development one bit).
But it CAN be a bad thing, no matter which gender you are. Exploitation even of a horny 15-year-old boy by a beautiful hot 25-year-old woman is still exploitation if he doesn’t feel comfortable with it. Boys have just as much right as girls to say no to a sexual solicitation, and it doesn’t make any difference how hot the soliciting party is or how happy YOU would be to do them if you had the chance.
Sure, mature teenage boys who are deliberately, willingly, happily getting laid by an over-18 partner of their choice can certainly be considered lucky. But teenage boys who are sexually exploited against their will even by hot beautiful women are victims, and not lucky. We should not be making those boys feel worse by trivializing their pain and callously suggesting that their only problem is that they don’t know when they’re well off.
Well it’s now “later tonight”, and I’m pretty sure I can hear you breathing out there.
Here’s the question again, for reference:
Well, I can see you but I can’t hear you because after a long, busy and tiring day I’m chillin’ with my headphones on, watching and listening to Elton John perform backed by a ninety piece orchestra plus choir from the Royal Academy of Music performing at the Royal Opera House. He and his band sound amazing backed by all those fabulous instruments and musicians, and if you want to watch a bunch of what you would think would be stuffy tuxedoed, gowned and bejeweled English types on their feet, rocking out and grinning like school kids, do yourself a favor and check out the finale here. It’s truly an amazing performance. (And don’t say I never gave you anything. ;))
Maybe tomorrow on your question. The answer is simple but I don’t want to have to deal tonight with the arguments that will undoubtedly follow.
Cheers.
We wait with bated breath. And if you want to distract our attention, you gotta use something shiny, or porn. Upper class twits with bad teeth proving that yes, indeed, white folks can’t dance for shit…not so much.
Yeah, Elton’s a crowd pleaser, no doubt about it. But man, but how 'bout that orchestra? Muhfuh!
Rand and Guin, sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g.
Troll.
Odds for the eagerly anticipated SA rebuttal:
even – Will boil down to “Government bad, private sector good” without actually addressing Euphonius Polemic’s question
even – Will live up to SA’s billing as “simple”… Well, simplistic, actually, but let’s not pick nits
3:1 – SA will tout his post #97 in the delusional belief that “My OP has so many fundemental flaws that you people couldn’t find all of them in nearly 100 posts” is something to be proud of
7:1 – Will displace “I remember the 50s when 8-year-olds were molesting each other and teens were shacking up with adults and no one batted an eye. Damn those liberals to hell for ruining those days!” as SA’s most embarrassing contribution to the thread
10:1 – Will never actually appear, much like magellan01’s much touted expose of the horrors that will occur if gay civil unions are called marriages
500:1 – Will address EP’s points in a logical and coherent way
1,000: 1 – Will provide proof of the existence of Sasquatch and Nessie, not to mention their two-headed love child
(Note: Odds on the last two events may have been inadvertently switched. We’re checking our records.)
even – Will continue to post irrelevant tangents about why he can’t be arsed to respond until the thread eventually dies.
That would be the smart move.
We are all aware SA is the Poster Boy for Lead Poisoning (a knowledge shared by hitherto undiscovered Amazonian tribes) but up until now I for one did not realised how deeply disturbed and creepy he is.
He’d be wise (have you spotted the little flaw yet) to creep away from this thread, embarrassed and shamefaced and lay low for a long, long time.
It’s possible this is as much of an apology as we’re going to get, I say we take it.
He started off by posting the worst example of privatized health care, and the worst example of Republican health care, so bad that if this had been a pro-UHC thread I wouldn’t have believed it and thought for sure the article was fake in some way.
Then he rambled a bit.
Then post #97.
Then some weird shit about his childhood and his early sexual encounters. How the fuck does that fit in with a woman being denied an operation?
Now he’s talking about Elton John.
Clearly he realized that he fucked up, that the article isn’t the example he was hoping for, and that he’s all alone with his idiotic beliefs. He knows that “arguments will undoubtedly follow.” So he knows he’s beliefs are full of giant, gaping, car-sized holes. At this point he’s hoping someone posts something he can jump all over like an 8 year old girl, and eventually pretend he scored a half-assed win.
Starving Artist, I accept your apology. It’s obvious you don’t have an answer to Euphonious Polemic’s question, especially if you think the answer is “simple.” But don’t give up, there will be government fuck ups, of that I am sure, and when it happens feel free to try again.
But by that time we really will have death panels and he’ll have been dragged off for “processing”.
Mmmmm…Soylent Green
To be fair, even under some kind of UHC plan, bureaucratic fuck-ups will indeed occur and people will die as a result, plus there will be attempts, some successful, to defraud the system, plus there will be budget cuts and shortfalls and clumsy mismanagement…
Fuckin’ humans! They fuck up everything!
Exactly! And when that happens, and at a rate far greater than 45,000 a year in my estimation, you won’t hear a peep of protest from this crowd. People here have shown time and again that they don’t care how fucked up things get as long it’s their side that causes it. I have pointed repeatedly to the deaths and fucked up lives and family miseries and lost educational opportunities and runaway STDs and pregnancy/abortions rates that have been the very predictable result of liberal activism and influence, and these people could. not. care. less.
But hey, if 45,000 people die each year because they don’t have health care (0.00015% of the population, btw, which I think is pretty good. Most societies in the world over the course of history would have loved to live in a country whose health care had advanced to that point), and if people can’t - oh, noes, change jobs - without health care conserns preventing it, then it’s all the fault of conservatives who are EEVIL and health care concerns who make - oh, noes - a profit of people’s health and this should never happen.
So, leaving aside the fact that everybody involved in health care makes a profit from it, whether by selling their time in return for their salaries - that’s right, nurse and lab techs and bed pan emptiers all profit from their endeavors - the fact remains that without the corporate profits earned by pharmaceutical companies and equipment manufacturers and research teams, the health care advancements which have given us the best in health care technology and facilities in the world and not only saved countless lives but made many other much more liveable, would not exist.
But none of this matters to the mediocrity-for-all, preferably-administered-by-government crowd. Because the most important thing, you see, is that no one should have more than somebody else, and because government is loving and caring and - wait for it - fair (BWAHAHA) - and will ensure that no one has to go without health care…unless the government says they do, such as was the case with Diana Smith. But that’s okay, hey everybody gots to have standards and cut-off points…oh, wait - except insurance companies; they’re supposed to cover everyone for everything no matter what they’re being paid for and the fact they don’t means they all are teh EVILLL!
So as you can see, all this bullshit about lost lives due to lack of health care is bullshit. Nothing but a smoke screen to be used to create a liberal-supported system in which people needlessly suffer for months or years on end waiting for procedures to end their suffering, and where people are left to die without the recourse and alternative options that exist today, because they’ve run afoul of government actuarial tables and/or red tape and bureaucracy that is inviolate and for which no systems exist to undo things and/or make adjustments or allowances when common sense would dictate they should.
So, no, this isn’t about lives needlessly lost through social or medical injustice; it’s about liberal ideology seeking dominance, and once that dominance is acheived, things like wait times and uncaring, unresponsive bureaucracy and people dying by government fiat will all be deemed perfectly reasonable and understandable and still better than the system under which people couldn’t change jobs and one person in 10,000 had to worry about bankruptcy.
We will now be paying off on:
Bettors please bring your tickets to the window. Form an orderly queue. Thank you.
I’m sure we’ll all take that estimation for what it’s worth.
Bryan, i’m sure that post was exactly the conclusion you yourself would have drawn from your observation about bureaucratic errors.
I see you have not answered my question at all SA, even though you seemed to have typed a lengthy post that boils down to " Government is uncaring and full of bureaucracy, so when they make mistakes nobody will care"
So let’s review:
-
Woman has Leukemia
-
Woman is beautiful (not sure why this is relevant, but it was in the title of the OP)
-
Woman raises money from community for treatment
-
Someone from Social Security contacted her to let her know that her son was entitled to benefits.
-
The result of this increased income was that Medicaid (a different part of the government), cut off her health care policy. The hospital then refused further treatment due to liability fears.
-
After screw-up was revealed, decision by hospital was reversed.
-
According to Starving Artist, this was a trick. Someone at the Social Security Agency TRICKED this woman into taking benefits that she was entitled to, WITH THE EXPRESS PURPOSE of making sure that she would then be cut off of Medicaid, and therefore would not get treatment. An extremely cunning plan to be sure. You could pin a tail on this plan and call it a fox. Cutting this woman off would save the government…………well nothing actually, but they showed her.
According to the OP, this deliberate example of surprise trickery was worse than anything an insurance company has done, ever, at it’s very worst.
I guess that would include Rescission : retroactively cancelling the coverage of more than 20,000 sick people, allowing the insurance companies to avoid paying more than $300 million in medical claims over a five-year period.
Or automatically targeting HIV patients for investigation to see if their policies could be cancelled based on “erroneous information, the flimsiest of evidence, or for no good reason at all”: Lawsuit shows insurer targeted HIV patients for 'rescission'
Note – these are not mistakes by insurance companies. They are policy.
-
This event then proves (according to the title of the OP) that Sarah Palin has been proven right: A death panel has imposed its first verdict.
-
Of course, the fact remains that the changes that will occur to healthcare due to Obama’s plan HAVE NOT YET TAKEN PLACE. So how can this be an indictment of Obama’s healthcare changes? This event took place under the CURRENT SYSTEM that is screwed up. It shows how the CURRENT SYSTEM is broken. This event sheds no light on what will happen IN THE FUTURE, when people are trying to fix the screwed up current system.
Wow, who’d athunk it was possible to have your board cred go below negative numbers.
SA has created a quandary that mathematicians will be trying to solve for generat… Sorry, doorbell, be right back!
CMC fnord!
Proof that SA should have been paying attention in third-grade math instead of fantasizing about the second-grade girls down the hall. (0.015%, you nitwit, unless the population of America went up to 30 billion while nobody was looking.)
