My first thought was that she is trying to head off some kind of huge scandal but heck, it’ll be fun to watch her run for president. ---

If in fact she’s doing it to spool up a nearly-four-year campaign for President, it’s the dumbest politician decision since… well, since McCain picked her as a running mate. She’ll properly be viewed as a quitter and an opportunist. On the other hand it may be for one of a variety of other possible reasons. Perhaps she’s tired of being distracted from her family. Maybe corruption problems are creeping up on her. ---

My first thought is that maybe she’s just tired of the constant media scrutiny and constant attention to her family. Even though the election was months ago, the media still can’t stop talking about her. Look at how often people on this board post about her. Since the election, I’ve heard a lot more about Palin (without even trying to seek out news about her) than McCain or even Hillary. ---

Maybe she tries to avoid the spotlight, but she does seem to pop up every now and then to say something silly or controversial. My first thought also was that there may be a scandal brewing. ---

As if quitting will take her out of the public eye… Just got off the phone with my brother in Anchorage, and while he doesn’t know of anything concrete (other than the ethics questions that seem to follow her around), he wouldn’t be surprised in the least if that is indeed the reason. He was particularly impressed with the loons in the background while she was speaking. A nice touch, that. ---
