Her kids are both Republicans, one is a lawyer like his Dad also Republican, and the other works for ICE. My die-hard Republican Father voted for Barack Obama. Most boomers I know who were hippy leftists are generally still hippy leftists, or at the most conservative Democrats like my Uncle.

At least this is just an empirical question. With a few grand from the NSF, it can be answered. I just tend to think that stupidity does not discriminate.

People have to accurately remember their beliefs of [del]20[/del] [del]30[/del] 40 (40? fuck, I’m old) years ago. Some would say, “Yeah, I was radical,” recalling halcyon days of bellbottoms and the 1910 Fruitgum Company.

You’re not describing leftists. Or liberals. You’re describing expensive liberal arts college students. 😉

Seriously, I’m a liberal. I understand fiscal realities. I have no illusions about Fidel Castro or Che Guavera (and I’ve been to Cuba). I think Mumia belongs in prison, although I oppose the death penalty. I know exactly what Hugo Chavez is (although he does have great entertainment value). I could even fairly be described as pro-life.

I’m about as far from being an easily offended, over-sensitive feminist as someone could be (and a HUGE fan of one-on-one female action) but I’ve got to be critical of the unending interest on the part of Palin’s avowed core in her “hotness.” I could see how a high testosterone count might impair your judgment for the first few days, or maybe weeks, of exposure to a candidate for national office whom you might consider fucking, but can you nitwits still rattling on about her sex appeal take a cool shower already, or jerk off, or something? Beyond a point (which we reached months ago) it just makes you seem very stupid, very unable to think with your upper brain, very satisfied wtih the way your lower brain thinks for you, and simply as retrograde as those pro-Hillary sheep seriously suggesting that her insight as a woman into world issues is a reason to vote for her. In fact, you look almost as idiotic as John McCain checking out Palin’s ass during one of her early national speeches. Your focus on her body gives people the impression that those of us who oppose her do so because she’s a woman, not because she’s uninformed, defensive, illiterate, undereducated, provincial, and unqualified, which are IMO sufficient reasons.

> I don’t think Palin has any interest in settling the matter once and for all. Any time the story comes up–even, as we see here, in the service of shutting it down–Palin can rend her garments and wail about how the LIBERAL ELITE MEDIA is being so HORRIBLE to her and her PRECIOUS, PRECIOUS FAMILY.

And yet the totally insane Trig/Bristol conspiracy story frequently made it into the Australian press. It was sometimes used as an illustrative example of how totally deranged some of the people who work for the American media, like Andrew Sullivan and the Anchorage newspaper editor, actually are. Not that Australian reporters and editors are all that much better – they have their own locally based things to get all deranged about.

It’s no different to a newspaper running yet another article on how the attack on the WTC could have been an inside job. “Oh look” says your typical reporter/editor, “how interesting! Makes you really think, hmmm?”

It’s the kind of thing you’d expect when up to 40% of any given demographic, including reporters, are not just capable of believing anything that fits in with their belief system but have a need to reinforce it. If a story appeals to them emotionally then they’ll run with it.

This phenomenon cannot be defeated; it’s just something we all need to learn to accept and live with.

When GOP Congresscritters, and conservative spokesnuts with huge followings such as Rush Limbaugh, spout this sort of tripe, this ain’t a stereotype; it’s reality. This isn’t some Cindy fucking Sheehan fringenuts I’m talking about; Republican Senators say crazy stuff like this on a regular basis.

Here’s [Sen. Inhofe](http://mediamatters.org/items/200803070012?f=s_search), for instance:

The National Review website has, for years, maintained a “Planet Gore” section of their website, basically devoted to ridiculing Al Gore’s notions about the environment. And the National Review - William F. Buckley’s magazine - is supposedly at the intellectual end of the conservative movement, the folks who are at least a little bit more thinkers than propagandists.

Do I have cites? This is the Pit; if you want to start a GD thread, I’ll see you there. Over the past year, I’ve heard the Barack = Muslim BS from random people on the street. The lies about global warming are widely spread, as my response to \*\*cosmodan \*\*notes. But I read the wingnut websites, I hear what Rush has to say, and I see the same things spouted by everyone from GOP Congresscritters to my in-laws. This stuff has wide distribution and wide credence among conservatives. So yeah, I feel comfortable in saying that I’m far more grounded in reality than these people. If 1993, then remember that it was the right wing that was having a conniption fit about how things were working out for us in Somalia. Good one.

The Palin nitwit squad doesn’t seem to understand that all this continued talk of her hotness, which is plainly not addressing her qualifications or justifying her positions, is just making the anti-Palin position plainer. “That’s all you’ve got? She’s got better legs than Hillary?” Why don’t you just come right out and declare “Yeah, she’s a vapid moron, but I’d like to tap that ass, mmm-hmmmm”?

Probably because you will be ignored and dismissed if you did that, so you dress your case up in empty but divisive political rhetoric (and speaking of “dressing up,” how’s that clothing issue coming along? Got receipts for charitable donations yet? Thought not.) Really, after the first few days, this dwelling on her appearance is the strongest possible statement that her defenders got nothin’ but are still chargin’ forward.

And speakin’ (this is fun!) of her “busy doctor,” I wonder what takes up more of his time, dealing’ with Andrew Sullivan’s frequent requests for an interview on the subject of her delivery of Trig (for which she’d have to release him from confidentiality) or givin’ a ten-minute interview? In the past five months, the poor beleaguered man hasn’t had a few minutes to answer questions, or even to provide medical records (of hospital admittance, of official records, of personnel present at the delivery, etc.)–and she’s stickin’ in her high heels and blamin’ the people askin’ the questions rather than the ones refusin’ to answer them? What’s the guy a doctor of, anyway? Spin?

Insofar as the comment is anything but a one-liner joke riffing on the original “do her” (impression) comment, it actually agrees with your point by mocking the “OMG she’s hawt!” starbursters.
