The scales have fallen from mine eyes! I’m having a road to Damascus moment! I done seen the light! Lead me, Sarah, lead me! If I follow you, I am assured a final resting place in the great beyond. Blessed am I to have seen the light! 🆒

I’m proud to say I’m demonstrably \*not \*that lazy. Ms. Husseinobama isn’t bad, but I’ve never been a particular fan of chicks with an underbite. Makes them look a bit like—well, a barracuda, in fact.

You truly don’t think that some fundamentalist believers don’t see themselves that way? :dubious: Not all–but some do.

Who knows just what Ms Palin believes. Our sitting President has stated he has a direct line to God–his “higher” father. Fundamentalist religions tend to emphasize a personal relationship with Jesus Christ with a calling to not only spread the good news, but also correct those whose views differ(they may call it enlightment. I call it harassment. Potato/potahto).
They are taught to be tools for Christ-- living examples and role models (that so many utterly fail at this should make any thinking person look askance at the precepts. Instead , those who fail are given credit for having tried or having accepted Jesus into their hearts. Those who also say they have accepted Jesus into their hearts, but do not support the same anti-gay, anti-women rhetoric are considered messengers from Satan. Or something).
If Palin truly walked this walk, the militancy and belligerence that characterized her debut would have been absent. Unfortunately, the ineptness would still be there…

Today’s delight was McCain telling Couric that the question answered by Palin that directly contradicted what McCain said about Pakistan in the debate was a “gotcha” question. Couric rightly said “That was a voter asking the question!” McCain continued to blather on about gotcha questions and Palin uttered something incoherent about a question being asked from “across a space”. This campaign appears to be coming apart at the seams, with both of them lashing out at any convenient target.

> **Katie Couric:** Over the weekend, Gov. Palin, you said the U.S. should absolutely launch cross-border attacks from Afghanistan into Pakistan to, quote, “stop the terrorists from coming any further in.” Now, that’s almost the exact position that Barack Obama has taken and that you, Sen. McCain, have criticized as something you do not say out loud. So, Gov. Palin, are you two on the same page on this?
>
> **Sarah Palin** : We had a great discussion with President Zardari as we talked about what it is that America can and should be doing together to make sure that the terrorists do not cross borders and do not ultimately put themselves in a position of attacking America again or her allies. And we will do what we have to do to secure the United States of America and her allies.
>
> **Couric:** Is that something you shouldn’t say out loud, Sen. McCain?
>
> **John McCain** : Of course not. But, look, I understand this day and age “gotcha” journalism. Is that a pizza place? In a conversation with someone who you didn’t hear … the question very well, you don’t know the context of the conversation. Grab a phrase. Gov. Palin and I agree that you don’t announce that you’re going to attack another country.

>
> **McCain:** No, she was in a conversation with a group of people and talking back and forth. And …I’ll let Gov. Palin speak for herself.
>
> **Palin:** Well, it … in fact, you’re absolutely right on. In the context, this was a voter, a constituent, hollering out a question from across an area asking, “What are you gonna do about Pakistan? You better have an answer to Pakistan.” I said we’re gonna do what we have to do to protect the United States of America.
>
> **Couric:** But you were pretty specific about what you wanted to do, cross-border …
>
> **Palin** : Well, as Sen. McCain is suggesting here, also, never would our administration get out there and show our cards to terrorists, in this case, to enemies and let them know what the game plan was, not when that could ultimately adversely affect a plan to keep America secure.
>
> \*\*Couric: \*\*What did you learn from that experience?
>
> **Palin:** That this is all about “gotcha” journalism. A lot of it is. But that’s okay, too.

I’ve watched that video, and I’m still not sure what Palin (or Grandpa McCain) was talking about. Is she saying that we shouldn’t talk about the possibility of US troops crossing the Pakistani border only because that would be broadcasting our strategies to the terrorists?

I thought McCain had insisted that he would never even consider any military exercises which would violate Pakistan’s borders, and that was why he was criticizing Obama so strongly for suggesting that he (Obama) would even dare to consider such a move.

But it sounds like Palin is saying that the US should have _all_ options available to us, even (presumably) including movement into Pakistan–only we can’t talk about it because the terrorists will suddenly realize that their hiding place in Pakistan might be compromised!

WTF?

And what was with McCain’s lame “pizza place” joke? Because the word “gotcha” sounds vaguely Italian?

Omigod. She just keeps repeating sound bytes. Even her perky wrap-up comment, “gotcha journalism, but that’s okay too” completely ignored truths: the question was asked _by a voter_, not a journalist, and she did in fact espouse invasion.

It helps–some–to picture her as Tina Fey. At least then I can momentarily ignore the hideous stakes. That, one old cancer victim away from the presidency.

What scares me is that in reading the transcript I totally had Tina Fey’s impression of Sarah Palin going on in my head.

And then when I got to the audio … my head turned out to be quite astute.

He was sneering at the fact that the question was lobbed by someone in the crowd in a pizza joint, so of course it couldn’t matter, since only non-persons frequent pizza joints.

I am, but as you may know children often rebel against their parents and my post was certainly sarcasm. However, I don’t think you understood **Merijeek** ’s point, which was I think to suggest that the gist of my post was that _Palin_ was **Bricker** in a dress. Not me.

IMHO leaders who justify their positions using religion probably range all the way from true believers through to those who don’t believe a word of what they are saying but have learned that they can get away with anything (with a certain audience) if they cloak themselves in religion.

I haven’t seen enough of Palin to form a view on how much she believes her own religious schtick.
