When I came onto this board, I said that I would only post if I had something tangible to say. While this included such dubious things as a thread about a woman who wanted to stick a strap-on in my ass (I’m quite sure that some enterprising reg will post a link to that, lest a single newbie not know of this), I had to be doing something right, because I have met a lot of really cool people here, made some friends, and of course, met my soulmate. I have gone through a lot since I registered here. I got a divorce. I got my heart broken very publicly. I fell in love again in spite of that. My mother died. I helped a few Dopers when they needed it, I was helped by a few Dopers when I needed it. I flamed a few people good-naturedly, and I took on a few genuine jerks. I won a popularity contest. I was rejected to be a moderator. I posted my picture and girls unacountably swooned. I started a board war with fundamentalist Christians. I have gone from an agnostic to a seeker of God. I am quitting smoking. On this board I learned how to debate, I learned how to use basic HTML (those were the days), and I learned about so many things, people and ideas. It’s like a really cool college class here when things are running smoothly, and most of the time, things have been. All I know is that I like it here. There’s nowhere else quite like it. I have always gotten tired of anyplace online after a few months. I’ve been coming here since the board came up, and in spite of a restbit or two, in spite of me getting upset at some things and some people, I always seem to come back. I guess that will never change… Anyway, I just want to thank everyone here, from regs who have been here longer than I, to newbies who are just coming for the first time, the moderators who I fought with and admired, often at the same time, and of course Cecil, without whom… All of you guys rock. Thanks for sharing a bit of your opinions and lives with me. I hope that at least one of my 3,000 posts made you think or laugh or cry or get mad or get happy, because I have felt those things here, and more. That’s the kind of numeric celebratory post that makes me want to propose a little something. Satan is a valued poster. I usually like what he says, and he says it well. I propose that we either retire the act of celebrating the reaching of a post count level in honor of Satan, or that we term it an honorary Satan post every time we do it. This may sound really odd when I read it in the morning. I am likely to be less tired then. * * * Looking for love in all the wrong places, no fine girls just ugly faces. From frustration, first inclination,is to become a monk and leave the situation. But every dark tunnel has a lighter hope, so don’t hang yourself with a celibate rope. ---

Satan, you have been, and I hope will continue to be, an inspiration to us all. We appreciate your sense of humor, your compassion, and your sense of honor. Whenever I am in a tight situation, I just say,“WWSD.
