Saturday Night Live: There is no reason why this show should suck so hard

Even 3 years ago, with largely the same cast, the show was pretty funny. I remember having high expectations for the 2004-05 season because they’d have the election to play with, but things just started sucking. I think that’s when Amy Poehler was really getting pushed as the star. She can be funny, but I don’t want to see her in every skit and hosting update. Tina Fey needs a foil (like Jimmy Fallon was) for that bit to work right.

The only time I laughed at this week’s show was the WU joke about Bush’s approval rating on the handling of the war.

Paraphrasing, of course:

He’s usually my favorite performer. His Donald Trump is great, but his delivery of the O’Reilly bit was HORRIBLE. I’ve never seen him “phone it in” like that. It’s like he doesn’t care anymore.

But I’m surprised he hasn’t moved on to greener pastures because he is better than that.

Yeah, that was hilarious. I found myself thinking: “That’s funny enough for the Daily Show.”.

Longer. Their first season was funny. They had the Muppets and the Land of Gorch. Then they lost the Muppets and haven’t been funny since.

Lately, they’ve slid even further down the toilet and become nothing but a cesspool of liberal political bullshit.

That’s the thing that irks me. The Daily Show comes up with funnier stuff 4 nights a week most of the year than SNL can come up with using more writers once a week for 22 weeks per year.

BTW, slight hijack, but the recent Family Guy episode in which Peter pummeled Jimmy Fallon “for laughing through every sketch you were ever in” was wonderful. If only it’d been the real Jimmy.

Here’s what Lorne Michaels needs to do to make SNL relevant again (or an exec at another network who wants to drive a wooden stake through SNL): Hire Dave Chapelle and let him do whatever he wants, so long as it doesn’t include nudity. Don’t give advance warning that Chapelle can say whatever he wants (since the “Biddy Brigade” who normally doesn’t watch SNL will be up watching with the FCC on speed dial), drop a few hints, but that’s it. (If the FCC does slap fines, pay them quickly and make a public statement that the only reason the FCC has their panties bunched about this is that they’re trying to deflect attention from Iraq.)

The he can have a nervous breakdown quit after making 3 episodes and run away to Africa. Then NBC can give the time slot to Adam Corolla and everybody wins.

eww. no, i don’t. eww. :stuck_out_tongue:

If by “everybody wins”, you mean, “everybody will be bored to tears and shoot their televisions”, then I agree.

The opening sketch with Tina Fey as Sarah Palin was OK, but by midnight I gave up for another season. How does this show continue?

Hi, try this one instead: SNL: 9/13/08 (season premiere)

I thought that Michael Phelps was pretty wooden…kind of like a zombie…

Zombie threads in Cafe Society are normally okay–as long as they’re revived with more than a “me, too”-type post. In this case, however, since the reviving comment was about a current episode, and there’s already a thread about that episode going on, then I’ll close this thread and comments can go in the new one.
