Airplanes that can drive on a highway have been available as inefficient expensive novelties. Flying cars as a common thing for everyday usage, as depicted in the movie, are not available and won’t be available in 2015.

And they never will be. People have problems driving in 2 dimensions, let alone 3. For those that do have the ability, helicopters exist.

I won’t say never, at least not for the reasons you give. We’re on the verge of having self-driving cars and we already have self-piloting aircraft so, it’s conceivable that we could have self-piloting personal aircraft at some point in the future.

Yeah but all it takes is one moron to hack and mod a self flying car to manual to potentially cause a mass accident. Especially if the cars are used in major cities like they’re normally depicted. Can you imagine the potential destruction something of something the scale of a major highway accident, except in the air and likely over multiple other layers of vehicles, and possibly among numerous tall building filled with apartments or offices?
