I have a Samsung DVR “powered by Tivo”. There are 2 USB ports on the back of the console. My computer has USB ports. Can I run a cable from one to the other and save some of the things I have recorded onto my computer’s hard drive? If I am not mistaken the Tivo uses Linux, my computer uses Windows. Will this be a problem? Will I be able to play the shows on my computer? What do you all think?

With a series two Tivo, you’ll need to employ the “monte hack”, then run a little server utility on the tivo.

It’s not that easy, but assuming you’re reasonably computer savvy and know a thing or two about linux, you should be able to pull it off.

[Here is the best Tivo hacking forum](http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/). Search for “monte” and “extraction”.

Oh yeah, hacking your Tivo will also void the warranty. FYI

Thank you for the info. I looked at the forum a little and will look more in depth later.
