Little hint **ClawsOfCatt** , your attempts at personal insults of **Guinastasia** are not very clever and completely inaccurate. And they really don’t help your case much.
Also, it is “Cite”. As in Citation.
Also drop the persecution complex- its not very becoming.
For a better approach you may want to look at **istara’s** post.
But then again, I am a Pit Vulture and worse, a dominant oppressor to boot, so my advice may or may not be of value to you.

**Guin** your OP is out of line, simply for being premature.
**Hamlet** , I can understand you being a bit cranky after your efforts at friendliness to **Reverend Mykeru** were rebuffed so rudely. **ClawsOfCatt** has not given the slightest bit of evidence that she is equipped to be as big a pain as he was; and as far as that goes, I don’t really see where you got the impression that she was equipped to, in your words

This is the first impression the woman is obtaining from _lurking_, which is something we should be encouraging new members to do. I really believe that the impression is a flawed one, but I’ve been around a while. Someone who is just arriving, and is confronted with the fact that we’re being accused of this _modus vivendi_ can be perhaps forgiven for not dismissing the accusation out of hand, if we don’t give him or her some reason to so dismiss.
That’s all I have to say, except:
Welcome, **ClawsOfCatt** , to the SDMB. I’m sorry you got a poor first impression of the board, and I hope you’ll be able to get past that and decide to stay and become whatever kind of member you are inclined to be.

Wasn’t sure, so I really was trying to be helpful. As I was with the suggestions. I love Newbies as you know (they taste like chicken 😉 ). Sorry-- too tempting.
While the somewhat breathless defenses of **ClawsOfCatt** are funny, and the poster is question was absurd with her persecution claims, **kaylasdad99** did get one thing right- **ClawsOfCatt** is no \*\*Reverend Mykeru \*\*.
Also that “poor impression” went both ways, but there is plenty of time to change that on both sides. Let me start it then:

Wow, some people are being pretty damn hard on this new Doper, IMHO. This is the Pit, after all, and while it’s nice to see scintillating repartee, such is not required in this forum. You may not like abuse and personal insults, but if that’s the case then this is not the forum to hang around in. I don’t really blame someone for developing a “persecution complex” when they’re pitted for being a “one trick pony” after ten whole posts. And this piling-on in defence of an oldie like Guin (who is perfectly able to defend herself) is a little unseemly.
If **claws** has never been to the Pit before, it’s a bit much expecting her to be aware of Pit ettiquette (to the extent that it exists :)). **istara** ’s points were well-made, and we shouldn’t, for example, expect a new person to know exactly what does or does not constitute a pittable offence. Nor should we expect a newbie to know that concentrating on a single issue that’s important to you is _verboten_ on this Board (which it isn’t, of course, unless someone forgot to tell me the new rule).
I think most of **Guin** ’s posts on this Board are smart and worth reading, but i think this pitting was waaaaaaay premature. Sure, it’s fair to take issue with the specific arguments made by **claws** - i did that in my post above - but that could have been done in each thread, without bringing the whole thing to the pit.
And **elf** , before you go slamming someone’s grammar and usage, you might want to give it a closer reading. That way, you’ll pick up the irony indicated by quotation marks which were, i assume, meant to mimic **Guin** ’s use of the term “site” instead of “cite” in the OP.

I agree with **Catt** that, for many years, and, partially now, women are not welcomed into the military because it can be a threat to the powers of the military, a vast majority of which are men. I also think the “protection” argument is based, in part, on the desire to control.
I agree, in part, that Christianity is a highly patriarchial religion that historically has little regard for women. I also agree, in part, that it would have been nigh but impossible for Christianity to exist if Jesus was a woman.
I agree with **Catt** that it is kinda silly to bitch about a perceived inequality in dresswear in the workplace when there has been/is a greater inequality in the important parts of the workplace.
I do think her claims about the witches was misplaced, if not outright ignorant. And it was troubling because she had a point about Christianity being responsible for some evils in history.
I also agree with _you_ that **Guin** was out of line in the OP. And premature.
However, it was because I agreed, in part, with much of what **Catt** was trying to say that I found her response to the OP to be so damn frustrating. Rather than conduct herself in an appropriate manner, she goes off the deep end with personal insults. Thus, she does a disservice to her arguments by appearing to be a nutjob. Had she came in here and explained her positions without stooping to the kind of crap she pulled, I would’ve been right beside you. But she didn’t. She acted like a snotty little kid.
To me, you can tell a lot about a poster in how they react to a Pitting. Both **Mykeru** and **Catt** are prime examples of how to do it poorly. Tis a shame really.
Oh, on preview, the same statements go to **mhendo**.

Well, my last post only went up a minute or so before yours, so you may not have seen it. For the most part it gives my further opinion on the issue.
I do want to add one thing. I agree that you can tell a certain amount about a person from how they react to a pitting. But i would add that an unwarranted pitting gives one some licence to get defensive.
While i try not to abuse people even in the Pit, i also realise that it can happen, and i take account of that fact when judging someone’s character. If someone appears to be a “nutjob” here, i don’t automatically take that to mean that they are a nutjob in other forums. The Pit acts as a sort of “blowing off steam” forum for many, and i don’t have a problem with that.
And, as i said before, **claws** may have assumed that such a reaction was what was expected in the Pit. As so many people have continually pointed out on this thread, she is a newbie, and we can’t expect her to know everything all at once.

Umm there was no “slamming”. In fact, its seems pretty clear from the text you quoted that I was very mild and even offered a bit of advice. But then my clarification post went up a few minute prior to yours.
In fact, based on your own quoted text it is **ClawsOfCatt** that was making doing the “slamming someone’s grammar and usage”, not me.
