Say, Una Persson, a note on how vBulletin works (search engine nonsense from ATMB)

Am I the only one who didn’t know there’s Loretta Lynn song about fisting ?

Well, in fairness to loretta, the album (Fist City,1968) also has a song called *What kind of a girl (do you think i am?)
*

and now we know . . .

heh!

I didn’t join the SDMB to have people explain things clearly and reasonably.

For my money, I want an unsustainable position and a huge pile-on. :smack:

Wait, are we piling on Una, Slacker, or the subject of Loretta Lynn and fisting? This thread now lacks a clear direction!

No shit! Back in the day, there were always two or three pile-ons on the front page of the Pit. Even Lib’s return hasn’t helped much.

Now the Pit has become a pussified wasteland of lame RO crap, whiny pseudo-rants and tomndebb-esque reasonableness. WTF?

The whole office wants to know why I’m crying…

I have a question about vBulletin.
I am a paid member now, but when I click on it, it says I don’t have permission to use it.
Is there some waiting period, or am I just not holding my tongue correctly when I click on it?
Thanks.

Can’t tell if you’re joking or not…

If not, what’s “it?”

It’s it.

Enjoy,
Steven

That’s no It’s it.
This is an It’s it.

What, you thought they were mining real coal?

Sorry. “It” being the vBulletin (in blue) link.

Please ignore previous post. You cannot comprehend the level of my ignorance. I think I was trying to access something that only administrators can use.
This whole message board is intimidating to newbies like me. Sorry.
(For this, and my double post.)

A few things about the search engine friendly archive feature:

  • It’s for the benefit of search engines. Take a look at the SDMB’s robots.txt file; general search engines are kept out, so the point of using the archive is moot.

  • Even if Google, Yahoo and the like were allowed to spider their way through the SDMB, there’s a few reasons why you might not want people to find the SDMB through the archive. Ads aren’t on archive pages. A reader would need to take a few extra, not-so-obvious steps to join the board if they like what they see. Information about how to join the board. Some claim that duplicate content at different URLs has a “watering down” effect that hurts Google PagePank and potential ad revenue.

  • On the positive side, the archive is great for browsing the SDMB – really, any vBulletin-based forum – using a cell phone or PDA.
