Out in the wild (say Walmart in your head) I heard a guy standing on line speaking of getting him “a ride in a Tesla-r”. He may have made the word 3 syllables. I’m not sure. I got a little laugh at that. I told Son-of-a-wrek about it. I thought he was gonna choke to death on a swallow of cheap beer. It was sad to watch til I realized he was laughing. His neck and face got really red. He said “Ma, don’t do that to me!” He thinks it’s the funniest thing he has ever heard. He will run with it. He’s gonna look for reasons to bring it up. So he can say **Tesla-r** out loud. Very loud. He ain’t got no shame. ---

Why is this funny? Would you have laughed just as hard if he was talking about the Tesla S or Y? The Tesla R (Roadster) is touted to have a top speed of 250mph and 0-60 in under 2 seconds. I want to ride in a Tesla R as well. ---

You mis-understand. I don’t know what those _types_ of Teslas are. I am willing to bet my last dollar this guy didn’t either. He was mispronouncing Tesla as Tesla-r. (Tesss a lar). In a deep sountern country accent. ---

No. You don’t get it at all. I got a tiny giggle of the hick guy botching the word _Tesla_ My nutty son thought it hilarious and will use it anytime he can. In his hickiest voice. I fear people will hold it against him. For obvious reasons. You are right. This has nothing to do with a car. ---

The humor in a Southern hick mispronouncing “Tesla” as “Teslar” comes from the contrast—someone with a thick drawl, more at home talking about tractors and mud tires, trying to sound worldly but stumbling over a name associated with sleek, high-tech electric cars driven by progressive, latte-sipping _Nawtheners_. It’s like Jed Clampett talking about his _see-ment pond_—that little linguistic mismatch adds to the charm.
