[An entrepreneur in South Carolina](http://www.upstatelink.com/issues/2004/09/13/2004091339057.htm) has been prohibited from selling urine, because it was viewed as a means of beating drug tests. Now it’s back to DIY pee. The variety of business models are amazing-I’d love to see what this guy presented to investors. :rolleyes: ---

Anyone else notice how the writer of the article kept switching from “pee” to “urine”. Why not throw a “tinkle” or a “weedle” in there too? I’ve only had to take a drug test once (when I was applying for my current job 6 years ago). IIRC, I had to pee in a room with a cup that measured the temperature. I’m not sure how pre-peed stuff would work unless the kit he was selling with his pee included a heater. Still, jail time for selling urine? I can only imagine the prison cell conversations about why they’re in there. ---

I know one Olympic athlete got caught trying to do this. I was tested recently because of a part-time coaching position. The information sheet indicated that I could take nothing into the bathroom and would be monitored. When I got there, the nurse just gave me the cup and told me where to go, allowing me to go in, backpack and all. I didn’t have to pull anything, given that I lead a very boring life ☹ , but I thought it weird how relaxed they seemed to be after the stern warnings. ---

5que, your experience isn’t exactly rare. The “rules and regs” are designed to weed out those who know they’ll test dirty and wig out before the test. In fact, most of the time when you give up a sample, they use a cheap over the counter swizzle stick to test your sample. These testers are fairly inaccurate, and lead to false negatives, false positives. For more serious drug tests, like the IOC, GSA(government contractors), they definitely do run your urine through a true tester, but for menial jobs like packaging and retail, they probably don’t put your piss through strict testing. Most people who “borrow” samples from other people conceal them in their crotches to make sure the urine is at the proper temperature. It also looks less conspicuous than pissing out your shirtsleeve, in the case of concealing it in your armpit. 🙂 Sam ---

Don’t ever join the military if you want to try to cheat on a urine test. They make you sign a bunch of stuff, make you read your Social Security Number for confirmation, make you wash your hands immediately upon entering the bathroom, and then they watch you pee. Of course, that’s why it takes me anywhere from three to five hours to give a sample. I am inordinately modest in that respect. I can’t even use a public restroom if there are people around unless it’s dire. Knowing that someone is watching my dong makes it all but impossible for me to give a sample until I make myself sick from drinking so much water. ---

I suspect it’d be because the real market for the stuff is “folks who are being routinely drug tested for the court system” (probation/parole etc.). Assisting some one in committing a fraud upon the court system would be looked at rather more harshly than assisting some one in a cheat to get a job, I’d think. there may be lots of companies drug testing potential employees and current employees, but I believe that it’s a drop in the bucket from the scads and scads of folks being routinely tested for probation/parole. ---
