Oh, you got that one, for sure! If two rights are absolute, they must be treated identically, in all circumstances! Says so right there in the…ah…says so right there in…mmmmm. Actually, come to think on it, where does it say so? Where does anything say so? Outside of yourself, that is.
The unquestioned, endlessly adoring look in people’s eyes when a federal agency pronounces anything. Dude. There are some things which are still the “property” of the states and not the federal government. Voting is one of them. The justice dept can complain, but the state decides. So, if SC chooses to require photo ID, that is presumably what the majority of voters in SC want. So, justice dept…bug off.
That said, is your position then the the federal government was wrong to strike down poll taxes, literacy tests and the various other laws that were pretty clearly designed to make it extremely difficult for African-Americans to vote?
