I received an email at work supposedly from the CEO:

I remember one of those cyber security test emails literally said in the subject line “This is a test. Report using the Report Phish button.” And still some persons fail the tests.
The only thing missing is a “kindly”.
Yes, the email came to the company’s HR email address. Fortunately it was abortive.
I’ve been receiving two new types of scam/spam calls lately on my cell phone.
The first type is a recorded message from either a breast cancer or a police group but neither claim to be a charity. Instead they identify themselves as a political action committee (PAC) and want money to elect people to support breast cancer research or more funding for the police. One fun bit is the call starts with an announcement that the call is being recorded and is that OK with me? Most of the time, I say no and the call ends abruptly.
The other one is from a company that can help with the IRS tax delinquency that I supposedly have. The way these calls go is the phone rings once and then stops ringing and then five or ten minutes later, there’s a voicemail message from them, like this one.
Hey it’s Trevor from the tax restored collective at ###-###-####. I’m calling about your past due filing looking at your file not sure if you still have some past taxes due or missed filing or if you took care of that already give me a call back if you still need assistance and we can help you with one of our many programs under the economic recovery initiative which would make any small or large amounts you may owe noncollectible give me a call back…
It’s interesting that they can end the call after only one ring (I’ve tried to pick up a couple of times) and still leave voicemail.
Almost every penny they collect goes to pay fundraising expenses(their own).
Any cold calling about taxes is a scam. There’s no way anybody would have your confidential tax files without your permission.
I already know it’s a scam; I’m not that much of an idiot.
I’m slightly impressed at how they’re able to leave a voicemail message after apparently terminating the call.

The only part that’s newer is the demand for payment (by gift card, the only currency banks deal in) right up front.
Damn. Someone’s not reading their email titles. I get low numbers on my phishing tests because I DO read the titles. If it’s not something that I’m required to deal with, I delete the email without opening it. Deleting a phish test doesn’t count - you have to report it.
I’m not going to worry about it. My way is faster.

I got an email today from “my company.” It had a PDF attachment that was titled Revised Handbook. I opened it up, and it was personalized with the company name, and then a few pages and the last page had a QR code that said to scan it and download the rest of the “handbook” I actually tried it on my iPhone, and it went to someplace in Russia, and then got wedged with a blank page (probably trying to download malware).
Pretty typical scam except who (supposedly) it’s from.
I’ve bolded the mistakes. The only believable part is the request for a Sephora card.
