Even scarier than the movie was some years after the tragedy when some news footage was aired, footage which had been filmed by a documentary crew which had gone to the Jonestown compound to investigate it. Jones was evilly cordial with them, showing them around, introducing them to people who the viewers knew were soon to die. The children were the worst, because you know that they died by someone else’s choice.

The biggest heart-thudding moment of it was when Jones was showing the crew all of the provisions and supplies that the cult had on hand, stored in lockers and chests. He opened one and noted, completely casually, that they had plenty of Kool-Aid.

Hearing that evil S.O.B.'s voice saying “we have Kool-Aid” has haunted me for years.

Ms Boods’ post about Jeffrey Dahmer reminded me of another nonfiction creepy TV moment. After the mass suicide of the Heaven’s Gate cult, CNN kept playing a video of the group’s leader, Marshall Applewhite. He was staring directly into the camera, speaking about his group. I can’t point out anything specific in the video that gave me chills, but the whole thing just seemed eerie to me.
