I’ll give you a hint: It’s all electronic and has a blue back-light plus I didn’t get schocked, not even once. (It’s hard to find a new electronic thermostat when you have a heat pump. Not even the “Universal” ones work most of the time. “Universal” my a… elbow.) ---

Hey **Vunderbob** not sure what cruise line **swampbear** is going on, but I just got back from a Royal Caribbean cruise on the Mariner of the Seas. Cannot recommend it enough. Email if you want to know more. JockeyWife got rid of our toasteroven in favor of a toaster that matches our appliances. Alas, no more open face toaster sammiches ☹ ---

I should crochet one of those bathmats with them - wouldn’t that be attractive? Anyway - no guy stuff this past weekend, was a little lazy, and he wanted to get some rest anyway. So - I got new glasses instead! And did some cooking - standard weekend (except for the glasses). This weekend I’m visiting my mom - my dad’s away for the week, and she doesn’t like to be alone in their house for too long - it’s a big house, I don’t blame her. We’re already trying to figure out where to go shopping - so many choices, so short a weekend! We are going pumpkin picking with my brother and his wife though - haven’t seen them since the wedding. It’s fall - where’s that big pile of leaves for me to dive in? Darn apartment living! Susan ---

Oh **susan** , buy a really big lunch box and paint it plaid! Maybe one of those mini-coolers so you can use the new perfect for plastic spray paint some company or other is making now. You would be the envy of all the other kids, plus no more plastic bags, cause those things are evil. **Swampy** , I’ve decided to stow away with you on your cruise. I’ve always wanted to try a cruise and this seems the perfect opportunity because I would blend in with you all so well. Plus, I speak spanish. And I don’t eat much, either. Today we have a faculty meeting to go to. I wonder if there’s gonna be a fight like last time. Well, an extremely heated arguement, that could have lead to a fight if the two people involved had been standing just a little closer to each other, dammit. ---

All right then. I don’t have a toaster, but I do have a toaster oven. I don’t make toast in it too often, but I use it as an oven a lot because it’s easy for cooking for two. Cat doesn’t count - he eats his tuna right out of the can. My sweetie and I prefer to have our dinner fully cooked and warmer than room temperature. I’ve never been on a real big ship cruise, but my sweetie once won 4 tickets on a gambling cruise in FL, so we took another couple and cruised for a few hours just beyond the 3-mile limit. We didn’t gamble - that’s boring. We wandered around and wangled an invite to the bridge. We wanted to see the engineering spaces, but they wouldn’t let us. So we mostly sat on deck and snacked and chatted. Correction - I think we may have a toaster on the boat. But if we do, it’ll stay there. I don’t need it in my kitchen. And speaking of my kitchen, we’ve gotten half of the cabinets installed!!! You can check it out at the second link in my sig if you’re so inclined. I’m very pleased! I’m even more pleased that my baby is coming to visit us Friday for the weekend! I’m even braving Friday afternoon rush hour in DC to pick her up at National Airport. **insert happy dance here** OK, I think that’s all I’ve got. **swampy** , have a wonderful time on your cruise and don’t worry about sending me a postcard or a festive island gift or anything. No, really, it’s not necessary. I know you’ll have other things on your mind. Have a good time, and don’t think about the rest of us laboring away at our mundane jobs. Don’t give it a thought… 😃 ---

**swampbear** sheesh! Your MLC is much less expensive than my fireman’s. He bought _me?_ a Corvette. Well, on second thought, if you’re in the owner’s suite, it might not be less. You’re gonna have a _butler_, not just a cabin steward. (sigh) Pictures! bring us lots o’ pictures! RCL is our favorite cruise line. We’re going to a “Crown & Anchor Evening,” sponsored by our Cruise Center on Wednesday to (maybe) plan our next cruise, (I hope, I hope, I hope,) but we won’t be in the owner’s, or even the president’s suite. We’ve gone from Vancouver to Hawaii twice now. Days at sea are the _best_, and crossing the pacific you get lot. I hope you have wonderful weather, calm winds and your ABCG is everything you’ve anticipated! Eat like a King, drink like a sailor, and sleep like a baby. Home will come all too soon. ---

It was in that period between the Disney lunchbox and being too cool to bring lunch anymore. Now I just carry a purple lunch tote. Kinda generic. My mother, brother, and I went to a new, moderately fancy French restaurant this Monday. I know it was fancy 'cause it was called “Toulouse” even though I didn’t see any short artists hanging around. Maybe they were off. Anyway I splurged on a spiffy french meal starting with escargot (snails if you’re nonfancy) in garlic butter, a chicken fricasse with ginger and lemon confit, and garlic mashed potatoes. Dessert was profiteroles-lovely little cream puffs filled with vanilla ice cream-slathered in chocolate sauce. No chintzy drizzle here, no sirree. Burp. ---

**vunderbob** the :eek: was for what **buttonjockey** said about RCL. It made me eek because he apparently did not like his cruise. **picunurse** has, however, allayed my fears. I am looking forward to this. A butler? Will he be there all the time? Is his name Niles or Mr. French? Will he pretend not to hear when ACBG and I err… umm…? We have an owner’s suite cause we got a deal on one of those travel websites, the name of which escapes me right now. You know what it is though. They have lots of commercials on tv. **FCM** the remodeling is looking good. I like the cabinets. Now let’s talk countertops. Granite. I see granite. **Rue** I just included all the really important alphabets. My very unscientific study has concluded that those are the letters commonly found in alphabet soup. Go open up a can and look. **dwyr** I don’t have a separate rice steamer. My veggie steamer also steams rice. It multi-tasks. I like that in an appliance. I also have a milkshake maker. After a weekend trip to the local Costco, VunderWife came home with something new: long loaf bread with chunks of garlic baked inside. It looked king of like French bread, but the texture was way different. A lot denser and chewier… Had to try it out last night. One of my giulty pleasures of life is grilled garlic bread, which I usually do with French bread or Texas toast. Slice, butter, (normally add powdered garlic, but not last night), and cover with Parmesan cheese. Grill on a hot griddle or skillet until the butter and cheese have melted. Fast, simple, and mm-mm good. So I did that with the new bread. It wasn’t as good as I would like, but it’s adjustment related. I left off the powdered garlic, but some would have been appropriate because the clove chunks could not make up the difference. Also, I mentioned the chewy factor… The slices were about 1", and this made it an ordeal to eat. Next time, thinner slices. ---
