Schlitz beer (possible sociology question)

Qadgop the Mercotan: “Don’t forget, back in the 60’s or so, Schlitz added cobalt to their product to preserve a better head. Unfortunately, this cobalt went right to a few beer drinker’s hearts and caused a nasty cardiomyopathy, that left many crippled or dead.”

I don’t recall any cobalt problems with Schlitz. I do remember an epidemic of “Quebec beer-drinkers’ cardiomyopathy” in about 1967. Those affected were Quebecois construction workers who drank enormous quantities of beer.

Beleive me, Hudy is still made on Central Parkway in Cincinnati, and you can still get 75 cent drafts at the Phoenix cafe any day of the week. Hudy Delight is much easier to find… and it still tastes pretty good for a light beer. Unfortunately, Bud has taken over the concession at the stadium…

Guess what? You’re all right.
Read about it here http://www.antiqibles.com/schlitz/history6.htm

Oh! Except for the crap about the cobalt in the beer.

“Taste the Gusto life”???

Thats the stupidest slogan I’ve ever heard. Any brand useing something like that deserves to go broke.
“Shlitz has Gusto”, at least seems to follow rules of grammer, even if it is cliche

I guess the legacy lives on. Old Milwaukee, started by Schlitz, today is one of the top selling beers in the country.

Back in the day, eyes roll back into head, hand starts to quiver our group liked to drink Old Mill Light. One summer the local bar started selling cases of Schlitz returnable bottles for 4.00$. We hated it, but we had lots of beer!!! After the first few drinking episodes you learned not to drink the entire bottle, but leave a little left in the bottom. That shit was horrible.

Not to be confused with Blitz, a Portland blue-collar beer. Well, formerly Portland. I’m not sure if they still sell a brew called Blitz, but the Blitz-Weinhart brewery in Portland was shut down and they now make the beers formerly brewed there (Henry Weinhart’s Private Reserve, if nothing else) somewhere in Washington state (I forget if it’s at Tumwater or Seattle).

It doesn’t matter. I believe Portland still has more breweries than any other city in the US, so there’s still lots of good beers (many better than Henrys) to choose from.

Mas’ pravdu.

Praz’droj, Staropramen, Zlaty Baiz’ant

Man, we’re talking nectar. Too bad they don’t travel that well.

The name Schlitz always makes me think of Joe Don Baker in Mitchell, one of the BEST episodes of MST3K.

Of course, in Pittsburgh, there’s Iron City…

And of course, I hate beer.
