[sub]Fuck. Good thing I copied and pasted.[/sub] This is completely asinine. Scratch that. This is fucking stupid. I’m a teacher. One week before school starts, after I’ve already put my room together and placed texts in desks, we find out that Some One at the District Office felt that our math program wasn’t aligned to California state standards (that I don’t understand as when we adopted the program, we were given a handout _from the district_ that _lesson by lesson_ told us which specific thread of the standard was being taught). Golly, what would work, Some One pondered. \ I’ve got it! Take all the 5th grade texts. Give them to the 4th graders. Take all the 6th grade texts, give them to the 5th graders. Voila! Problem solved! Oh, yes, and tell the teachers to stay _on the same pace_ as before: one lesson a day. No time to pause–gotta get through that book before testing in April! **WHAT the FUCK are you _THINKING!?_** OUR TEST SCORES IN MATH HAVE BEEN GOING UP–A LOT–SINCE ADOPTING THIS PROGRAM! WHY ARE YOU FUCKING WITH IT? I just graded a stack of math homework. I’m seeing way, _waaaaay_ more 10-13% than I should, ever, but particularly in the beginning of the year which is supposed to be reviewing skills they already know. Of course, never mind that they’re expected to _skip_ a full fucking year in the program. Never mind that this will make my math-phobics freeze and give up. Never mind that _some_thing has to give in my teaching day if I’m going to teach this in a way to catch the ones that are already falling. 2 hours of math, 2 hours of reading, hour and a half of science and social studies. Fine. Fuck anything creative. Fuck you for making my students go through this. Fuck you for making _me_ go through this. Get your distict-office-cubicled self into my classroom and try teaching long division (two digits into four digits) as a _review_ on the second day of school. Stick around for the bewildered-to-angry notes from parents. FUCK this. ---

I know if La Principessa came home from 7th grade math class and was suddenly expected to do 8th grade math, after not having had 7th grade math, because when she was in 6th grade last year they were teaching 6th grade math that year to 6th graders, but now that they’ve changed it, they’re teaching 7th grade math to 6th graders and 8th grade math to 7th graders, so she never had 7th grade math… \<\< disentangles self with difficulty from verbiage \>\> Anyway, we’d be down there at the Keil Building making dissatisfied noises. ---

Damn that sucks. I went through a year of hell as a 3rd grade Catholic school teacher, so I can sort of relate. Skipping an entire year of math?!? You should think about contacting the local TV station. They’d eat that shit up and raise some hell.
