Being transformed into another creature and losing my humanity like in \*The Fly[/] (Jeff Goldblum version). Waking up to find that hundreds or thousands of years have passed. (countless movies and books). ---

I find myself in a society of telepaths, where all thoughts are shared and privacy is an unknown (or even slightly offensive) concept. I try to get some time to myself and people keep _bugging_ me until I have to take out my blaster and start wasting them. Favourite, of course, is to wake up in the society where all other men have died out. [sub]though there is some conceptual overlap with both scenarios[/sub] ---

To wake up in the plot from the Cube - a maze where every other room is booby trapped with some horrific way to die. That would suck. Anything involving giant spiders. ---

Being in a situation where anyone could be a pod person and thus working againest you. Not knowing who to trust. Go up to a family member you haven’t seen in a week and have them do the pod-person scream at you. After seeing “Land of the Dead” today, being trapped in a world overrun by zombies and it was only a matter of time before circumstances let the zombies into your shelter. And related to both, dealing with something that could so easily spread and it only took one infected person let into your sancuary by mistake to compromise the entire thing. ---

Being on a long-term space flight and having the technology to keep me in a coma fail would probably be the worst for me. I get bored very easily. A close second would probably be finding out I’m the target of a major conspiracy, i.e. all other humans were really aliens experimenting with me or I’m the only alien or either of the above situations with robots in place of aliens. I’d feel like my entire existence was a lie, because it would be. ---

Being trapped on a marooned spaceship. In a similar vein, being stuck in the middle of space in a spacesuit. Ray Bradbury wrote a wonderful short story on the matter, “Kaleidoscope”, in which the crew of spacesuit-wearing astronauts are hurtling through the void of space, contemplating their doom.
