If this is a prank, they better put the joker in the witness protection program.

This is beyond cool, and I will be VERY upset if it’s a lie.

Maybe they’ll find evidence that mosquitos sucked on the dinosaur blood, and then they’ll be able to _clone ancient mosquitos!!!_

Holy cow!!!

Absolutely fascinating stuff, I´d hate to find out it´s a hoax, but I just can´t wrap my mind how the tissue could survive for 70 million years, no matter how very well isolated it may have been. But then there are mummies that keep rather fresh (although much, much younger), in spite of being much more exposed to the elements, so I guess that it´s possible.

I don’t think\* anyone\* could ever find a ten foot tall one. Now a [seven foot tall celery stalker](http://www.animalrights.net/archives/year/1999/000084.html), that’s a diffrent story.

**Science Now** has an article about in online already (AAAS members only) that gives some of the same details in the articles linked, and some quotes from Mary Schweitzer.

The same article also includes this caveat:

> [@](#):
>
> Hendrik Poinar of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, cautions that looks can deceive: Nucleated protozoan cells have been found in 225-million-year-old amber, but geochemical tests revealed that the nuclei had been replaced with resin compounds. Even the resilience of the vessels may be deceptive. Flexible fossils of colonial marine organisms called graptolites have been recovered from 440-million-year-old rocks, but the original material–likely collagen–had not survived.

Not to rain on the parade, but the chemical testing idea is, according to the report still at the “seeking funding” stage.

Way cool, though.

I should be able to read the article in Science tomorrow, although my hard copy never gets here before Monday.

Oh, great. That’s what we need around here. Mosquitos with t-rex DNA.

Pshaw. I’m waiting for them to find Apatasaurus soft tissue. _Then_ we can talk some serious Buffalo Things!!!

Seriously, though, I’m dying to find out what this stuff looks like under the microscope. Maybe preserved cell structure? Surely preserved DNA is too much to expect.

Of course, as soon as I post something concerning microscopes, I find that the New York Times article has some [microscope pictures](http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2005/03/24/science/24cnd-dino.ready.html). Coooooooooooooooooool.

I can’t help but be reminded of the scene in _The Mummy_ where the heros open Imhotep’s sarcophagus only to discover that “he’s still…_juicy_!”

Imagine the immediate reactions of the field paelontologists when they cut into the thing to get it on the 'copter…

When I mentioned this to a guy I work with this morning he said something like “They’re already starting to doubt the 70 million year age”. This is the same guy who mentioned last week he doesn’t believe in evolution.

Yup, this is certainly going to be mixed blessing.
