# Scoring in boxing when there is a draw.

In a pro boxing match there are three judges. If the fight goes all the way without a knockout, it’s up to the judges to decide who won. Heres what I know:

\*If all 3 judges score boxer “A” the winner, “A” wins a unanimous decision.

\*If 2 judges score “A” the winner, & 1 judge scores boxer “B” the winner, “A” wins the fight in a split decision.

But what if a tie is scored by one or more judges? Here is what I _think_ I know:

\*If 1 judge scores “A” the winner, 1 judge scores “B” the winner, and 1 judge scores the fight a tie, then the fight is a draw.

\*If all 3 judges score the fight a tie, the fight is a draw.

Is this correct?

Now, (here is my main question) what happens if 2 judges score the fight a tie, and 1 judge scores “A” the winner. Does “A” win, or is the fight ruled a draw?

Here’s the basic permutations when the judges do not agree:

2 judges for 1 against: split decision

2 judges for 1 tied: majority decision

2 judges tie 1 for/against: “majority” draw

1 for 1 against 1 tie: draw
