Dear Acquaintance (I’ll just call you um… Vera Lynn for now), It’s very nice when you’re so enthusiastic and happy. I wish I could be as happy as you are. Really. But see, Vera, you have an awful voice. A horrible, grating, shrieking voice when you squeal. Now, I’m not saying my voice is that good either, but must you scream so loudly? You told me yourself that you did NOT have hearing problems or any other sort of ailment that would cause your voice to reach such a HIGH decibel level. In the cafeteria at lunch, please do not ---

Damn, I pressed Submit too soon. Please do not shriek when I am listening to my music. Please do not scream when we are in Earth Science class together. Please do not yell when you see me in the hallway. I understand you’re a loud person, but I am not. Sudden loud noises make me anxious and VERY irritable. Thank you. ---

I was working at a hotel in the English Lakes District, and Vera Lynn stayed for a few nights. She was lovely; very friendly and gracious. The hotel manager got me to take a picture of her, which he hung in his office. I still have the original somewhere in my boxes of old photos.
