I don’t think you’re getting what I’m asking. Great, you think you found something. But your comment wasn’t “OMG everyone wait until you see this!” It was specifically about saving **Chronos**. If you were just giddy about the fact that you were able to make a case against someone who you thought was scum, that’s one thing, but your post wasn’t just an expression of happiness. It was an expression of happiness about _saving someone else’s ass_. Someone whose ass you had up to that point been trying to hang, not save.

So I’ll ask in a different way. Why, given all the different possible ways you could have chosen to express your glee, did you choose to be particularly happy that you were saving **Chronos** , who based on your previous actions you do not believe deserves to be “saved” in the first place?

God, I hope you’re Scum, because if you’re Town and I die first, you will most certainly die next for this. And that’s a real waste of someone who is otherwise quite a good player.

I feel like a huge distraction in this game. So here’s a suggestion.

I want all those who people generally think are mostly confirmed Townies to vote for me. Basically, that includes **Gryff** , **Boozy** , and although not everyone believes it yet, **Daphne**. At that point I will have five votes, and **Alka** can vote for me as leader and start the countdown. Everyone else keep your votes where they are or vote for someone else who you believe to be Scum–I only want the two votes that I have plus votes from those who are likely to be Town. That will be enough to take me out. If you are someone who hasn’t voted and would prefer to vote for **Chronos** , feel free to make your preference known, but refrain from actually voting toDay.

Once I’m dead, you’ll see I’m Town, and you (especially you, **Normal Phase** ) can move on to _actually finding Scum_.

I really think you are reading too much into this. The only way I can see **Tom** ’s original comment as Scummy is if he meant to post it to the Scum boards, which would make sense if they were both Scum. But it isn’t all that odd in the context of a player finding a good case.

Analysing the wording a player uses sometimes yields results but this example is ambiguous, and ambiguous wording means we waste time debating back and forth over what the third “it” referred to or whatever.

**Drain Bead** , why are you asking to be lynched _again_? I don’t understand what your ostensible mislynch would do to help the town.

It’s just not a good idea to lynch someone who wants to be lynched this bad, in my experience.

If you think this is **Tom** trying to save fellow team mate **Chronos** from the hangman, why would you do this? If you are town (and my instincts have been saying you are) then what benefit do we get from wasting another day lynching non-scum?

I was trying to reconcile my above mentioned instincts with **Tom Scud** ’s find and this statement actually moved you away from town in my mind. However I am still not willing to actually vote for you yet. Nor am I happy to Vote for **Tom** …

It seems to be that lynching **Chronos** would shine some light on the dilemma, as if **Tom** is trying to save him then he will show as scum, and **Chronos** has been pinging mild scumliness to me for the last two Days.
If he comes up town then I would have to go along with **Tom Scud** ’s find (while kicking myself for getting another one wrong).

**Vote: Chronos**

I am starting to suspect that this is **Drain Bead** ’s self defence action. i.e. hoping people would think “Why would Scum ask to be mislynched, we must have the wrong person!”

This is not to say I think **Drain Bead** is scum, but my previous belief in her towniness is being eroded by the hour.

My guess is she’s trying to remove herself as a distraction from the Town which DOES have a pro-town motivation in a perverse sort of way.

I’m leaving town this morning for a couple of days. I’ll try to keep up by phone, but not sure if I’ll be around to change a vote or make any more substantive posts before Saturday. Not knowing when the Day ends makes travel and scheduling tough.

**Alka** wants all townies to get their votes down before he places his vote so let me try.

Looking at the **Chronos** and **Drain Bead** cases, we have **Tom** ’s first vote for refusing to vote strategically and saving **Thing Fish**.

> [@Tom\_Scud](#):
>
> Might as well get this one down:
>
> **vote Chronos**
>
> For his refusal to vote strategically at the end of Day 2.

Then we have **Drain Bead** ’s vote for the same reason plus not believing the **Daphne** confirmation:

> [@Drain\_Bead](#):
>
> **vote Chronos**
>
> Lack of a strategic vote, plus the anti-Daphne post from this AM after I had confirmed her smacks of anti-Town attempts to sow discord–Occam’s Razor points to the fact that she’s Town, **peeker** ’s statements determined for me that that she’s telling the truth, and we don’t yet know if her role is in opposition to the color. And while **Tom** may think that **Jimmy** confirmed you (and his comment there lacked any real certainty), I do not– **Jimmy** was scum and we don’t know the motivation for anything he did.

Then \*\*Chronos \*\*explains that his post wasn’t anti- **Daphne** and that his vote _was_ strategic but that he didn’t want to vote for someone he considered VT:

> [@Chronos](#):
>
> First of all, that post wasn’t really anti-Daphne. Right now, I don’t know what to think of her, so I tried to list every possible explanation. I don’t know which explanation is correct, and there is an explanation in there in which she’s Town.
>
> And I can’t believe I’m getting votes for voting for the person I thought most likely to be Scum… Isn’t that how we’re all supposed to play? OK, I didn’t think **Thing Fish** was the best lynch, so I didn’t vote for him. Out of people other than **Thing Fish** , I was apparently supposed to vote for **Freudian** instead of **Daphne** because **Freudian** had more votes on her already? That’s an idiotic way for a Townie to vote, since it makes it easier for Scum to push bandwagons.
>
> Plus, of course, there are all the other people who also didn’t vote **Freudian** , or who even voted **Thing Fish** themselves. Why aren’t they getting criticized for not “voting strategically”? Is it just because I was online at the end of the Day, and they weren’t? I feel like I’m being punished for being active.

Then **Normal** votes **Chronos** because he could be a SK as well as not saving **Thing Fish**.

> [@Normal\_Phase](#):
>
> I don’t think **Chronos** is Scum. The risk/reward on the Lie Detector thing is all wrong for that. I do think he is likely to be third party. (And if he is, very probably a SK, given he argued recently we likely did not have one.)
>
> **vote: Chronos**
>
> The reasons, in no particular order:
>
> – A general pattern of placing votes for “single post”/opportunistic, rather than “big picture”/analyzed reasons. **OAOW** and **Boozy** were voted for their soft claims. **Tom Scud** for the timing of a post and the speculation in it. **Daphne** for the content of her “claim” post and those immediately following. The votes on Day Two are distinctly less avoidant of bandwagons than those from Day One, but the lack of analysis-driven votes continues, and I would never have expected that of **Chronos** going in to this game.
>
> – Questioning the value of discussing what **Jimmy** might have been up to on Day One. This is the only point that makes me think I might be wrong about **Chronos** not being Scum, though it fits just as well for a third party worried the game will get out of balance too fast if the right conclusions are drawn from what **Jimmy** did. I don’t see a good Town motive for questioning the value of such discussions.
>
> – Refusal to vote strategically to spare **Thing Fish** , despite all of the following being true:
> : the more strategic vote is inactive, hence very little loss to Town if a mislynch
> : the more strategic vote is somewhat linked to **Daphne** anyway
> : the case against **Thing Fish** is “weak”
> : **Thing Fish** claims to be a type of doctor; **Chronos** claims to believe there are probably not two; and **Chronos** claims to be suspicious of **peeker** , the other doctor claim
>
> That last point alone should have served to convince **Chronos** that **Thing Fish** was sufficiently likely to be Town to be worth trying to save rather than wasting a vote on **Daphne** , if he was being honest about his motivations.
>
> Finally, a pattern of suspecting or pressuring claimed roles in rough proportion to how dangerous they would be to a SK.
> – **Daphne** , role-blocker/investigator, gets a pair of votes and continued suspicion today for what I think are questionably logical reasons.
> – **peeker** , “backup Doc”, gets consistently voiced suspicion
> – **Thing Fish** , bodyguard/Doc, gets left on the hook at end of Day despite a “weak” case and suspicion of the other Doc claim
> – **Boozy** and his magic bag (TM **peeker** ) get a throwaway vote on Day One and voiced suspicion right up until **Alka’s** claim cuts off most of the rationale
> – **OAOW** , the nature of whose role remains completely unknown, gets a throwaway vote Day One and continued prodding up to the present
> – **gryff** and his questionably-useful items get no pressure post-claim despite the claim remaining incomplete
> – **Alka** , whose danger to Scum/3rd parties appears to have been expended, gets no pressure at all despite there being ample opening for a suspicious player to do so
> – **Jpei** similarly got no pressure
> – **Drain Bead** has gotten no pressure

Then **Oredigger** votes **Chronos** for not playing as he usually does:

> [@Oredigger77](#):
>
> I had a feeling that Chronos hadn’t been very analytical so I went back and reread his posts so far and he only had a couple of posts that seemed to be anywhere near his usual play style.
>
> He’s just stating the obvious but at least he is trying to use logic.
>
> He tried to use some of his objectivity to explain why we shouldn’t lynch a claimed doc doesn’t really help find scum though.
>
> Rather then paste his copious notes about the Days and Nights actions I figured I use his words to explain why that shouldn’t count as him using objective analysis.
>
> All in all I was right he hasn’t done any analysis in thread to find scum. I find this pretty suspicious considering we’re on Day 3 and there have been plenty of days and votes in there for him to try and draw information from. When this is combined with some of the other cases against him I think the noticeable change in play style, despite him talking about objective analysis, is enough the vote.
>
> **Vote Chronos**

Then **USC** votes him for the previous reasons and for posting his program after being asked to:

> [@USCDiver](#):
>
> Oh hell! Is this the same program you’ve used in previous games? Has it ever been shown to provide any useful information? Has it been updated? If I recall correctly, your major assumptions are number of scum and the ‘fact’ that scum are more likely to vote for Town than to vote for Scum. Am I correct?
>
> **Vote Chronos**
>
> Mostly for the things others have pointed out, but also for bring up a program that, in my experience, has done nothing but distract discussion without providing useful information.

Next **Tilta** votes **Chronos** for not theorizing more:

> [@tiltawhirl](#):
>
> Apparently my preferred style of play is to choose which bandwagons to climb on and which not. Since analysis is not my forte apparently, I’ll guess I’ll have to embrace my nature as a low-information voter. I will be away for most of today, so I would like to put a marker down.
>
> As of right now **Chronos** is not only the runaway vote leader for being lynched, but the only player this Day who is under serious pressure. I am very open to having an alternative candidate to consider. That said, **Chronos** is by far the most suspect player remaining. Compared to the amount of energy he spends on big-picture theorizing and on arguing minor points, there’s quite a bit less engagement around the issues that drive votes.
>
> **Vote Chronos**

Then **Tom** has his giddy feeling and revelation about **Drain** , and moves his vote to her for not saving **Thing** and accusing **Chronos** of the same crime as she had committed (among other reasons):

> [@Tom\_Scud](#):
>
> **unvote Chronos**
> **vote Drain Bead** for not strategically voting to save **Thing Fish** ; for massive hypocrisy in voting **Chronos** on the same case; for misrepresenting the cases being made against you on Day 1, and again misrepresenting **Normal Phase** for her case on Day 2; and oh, yeah, because **Jimmy** came to your rescue on Day 1.

/snipped

Finally **Gryff** votes **Chronos** as his lynch would shine light on the dilemma.

> [@Gryff](#):
>
> If you think this is **Tom** trying to save fellow team mate **Chronos** from the hangman, why would you do this? If you are town (and my instincts have been saying you are) then what benefit do we get from wasting another day lynching non-scum?
>
> I was trying to reconcile my above mentioned instincts with **Tom Scud** ’s find and this statement actually moved you away from town in my mind. However I am still not willing to actually vote for you yet. Nor am I happy to Vote for **Tom** …
>

> If he comes up town then I would have to go along with **Tom Scud** ’s find (while kicking myself for getting another one wrong).
>
> **Vote: Chronos**

**Chronos** and **Drain** both gave the same motivation for not saving **Thing Fish** , they moved their vote to **Daphne** , someone they both considered scummier than **FS** and hoped others would follow. (Others being basically **Tom** , **Allwalker** and **Peeker** ). Even if these three moved their vote, **Thing** would still be the vote leader and would have been lynched. Even if **Chronos** and **Daphne** had voted for **FS** , **Thing** would still been lynched due to the leader’s vote counting double in a tie-break. A pointless discussion and incomplete reasoning for a vote - well, for me at least as I’m equally or more guilty of **Thing** ’s demise. I need time to digest the other accusations that are out there, and maybe finish my WoW.

@ **Alka** , sorry, I am a Townie but I’m not ready to vote yet. I will keep following events toDay and hope to make an informed decision before dusk.

I don’t want Town wasting everyone’s time discussing lynching me every Day. I certainly don’t want to make it to endgame with this level of suspicion on me. And I do not want any unconfirmed Town on my wagon, other than what may potentially already be there. I don’t want to give Scum any tools to use against the Town in my mislynch.

I do think that **Tom** made a mispost, and thought that even before I found out I was involved with it. And this is not a defense. I really would like to die in the manner I suggested, toDay. I think overall it would be better for Town.

The 3 main suspects through the Day were DaphneBlack, Freudian Slit and Thing Fish, not including Boozahol Squid, P.I.'s brief spotlight.

So, aside from the details that Tom Scud has already shared.

A couple of interesting points from the Day are shortly after Thing Fish gains 5 votes from GuiriEnEspana (#1422) and CIAS (#1424), we have two votes from Drain Bead (#1430) and tiltawhirl (#1433) pushing DaphneBlack back up to 5 votes.

Then at #1441 the vote was DBlack(5) and Thing Fish (5), could go either way still, despite DBlacks roleclaim and nothing from Thing Fish. From #1442 to #1444, this became DBlack(4) and Thing Fish (7) and much more likely that Thing Fish would swing.

Also, to note is that after Thing Fish’s claim, amrussell declined to move vote, Squid’s vote was fixed, Thing Fish vote was held by politician and Guiri revoted Thing Fish. The other three I believe were all offline. Short of getting 7 votes on Freudian Slit and hoping Boozahol would use his position to vote Freudian Slit, I think we stuffed ourselves with the vote timing. Please let’s not do that again.

And having done that, I can see\*\* Drain Bead\*\* is determined to be lynched and has a plan as well. 😕

And yes, one thing does worry me about it is that she is asking for all the “confirmed” townies to vote for her and not the unconfirmed. That is also perfect for a bomb role as she points out.

Bluff or Double Bluff, or no Bluff at all?

Editing a post does not seem to be automatic modkill in this game, FWIW.

Well, for a new player, at least she is hanging in there. However, I thought I would have a look as she tied up the vote on DaphneBlack with Thing Fish on Day 2.

**tiltawhirl** : brief WoW because there are not many posts

#6, #72: fluff (is first time player though)
#89: Supports electing experienced player
#138: Suggest leader makes voting intentions known beforehand
#178: elects tom scud and provides reasons
#288: Agrees with Normal Phase about variable length of Day being useful
#419: Comment to jpei about non Leader vote, comment on Tom Scud vs Peekercpa, thinks Tom was making educated guess, if peekercpa is scum, nit picking will undo him, if town it will be useful. and is town aligned.
#443: Thinks chronos’s first vote for OAOW was legit as was Drain Bead’s for Chronos. However does not see problem with Lie Detector so votes drain bead
#454: declared town but not on Drain Bead list
#520: unvotes drain bead, thinks peekercpa is likely lynch had not consider bandwagon before casting vote, will klook at Tom scud Oredigger analysis
#579: Sees nothing in Oredigger analysis, thinks Tom Scud is well-reasoned, pro-town play
#664: Question to Gryff and JC, about peekercpa’s claim and if Drain bead scum and not town, why claim VT.
#669: Thanks for Mafia 101, is against peekercpa lynch at this time, but he is more likely scum, comment to jpei, comment on understanding Drain Beads writing style more.
#704: question to jpei about roleclaiming before using power.
#708: votes BillMC over BillMCs vote for Boozy Squid
#867: standing firm on BillMC vote, FOS on Chronos of pushing OAOW roleclaim and wanting quick end to Day
#896: fluff
#1018: dissents on electing “confirmed” players, add reason, elects Tom Scud to see justification of actions.
#1358: is swamped by game
#1433: comment to daphneblack for not giving up all information and gives encouragement by voting daphneblack
#1475: unvotes Daphneblack following response, does not understand the Thing Fish wagon, votes FS for abandoning game.
#1540: comment to Thing Fish and on End of Day
#1649: Elects Tom Scud again
#1655: Comment to mods
#1699: repeats comment about electing unconfirmed players, thinks Boozy may be semi-confirmed, action was anti-town
#1700: has few reasons to believe Tom Scud is town
#1731: comment about climbing on bandwagons. Considers chronos runaway leader, open to alternative candidate, but he is the most suspect over big picture arguing and less engagment on vote issues. votes Chronos

She has been reasonably consistent with her actions. and has given reasons for her votes/unvotes. Concerning the DaphneBlack vote, she did unvote afterwards when given a good reason and then voted FS, which I think is a pro-town mark. Another interesting point is her call for an unconfirmed leader, which she has explained, but I’m unsure whether this is townie or not.

However, there is not that much extra to analyse so I would ask \*\*tiltawhirl \*\*to post some more thoughts on the game.

Will try and look at Normal Phase next.
