No, I have no contact with my half-siblings. I never wanted to open that can of worms. The last time I saw David, I was almost 5. He picked me up and took me for a drive. I remember playing with Duffy and I think Pepper may have been there too as a baby or toddler. I can’t be sure. It was a long time ago. He dropped me off with my mother later that afternoon and that is the last I have every seen him, talked to him or heard from him. He vanished without explaination. Awesome guy huh. No child support, no birthday cards, no letters or phone calls. Again, knowing what I know about this man, in hindsight I am happy he went south without and contact … so I could grow up relatively normal. Still, I wonder what could have been and wonder what my relationship could be with my half-brothers and sister. My mother didn’t have anymore children so I was left to be an only child with loads of wonder about what it felt like to have a brother … a sister … a father. I don’t think I ever cried or wondered why my Dad wasn’t around. I think it was just a fact … a constant … something that just ‘was’. My step-dad came into the picture when I was 10 or so. He raised me right and accepted me as his own right from the start. I went on to excel in sports and graduated from college. I had my years where I decided to be a rebel but once I met my wife, I settled down. Now I work on starting a family and being the best damn Dad I can be to that little boy (s) or girl (s). I intend to break the cycle that David Strode has fueled with his past relationships and children. I don’t intend to ever see him again or communicate with him in any way, shape or form. He was dead to me decades ago and I am fine with that. I accepted the cards dealt to me and try every day to become a better person. Unlike my father, I don’t feel that I have to belittle, judge and harass people around be to feel like I am a better person. Live and let live. What will be, will be. Simple mottos I live by. My mother taught be those sayings. I am the person I am thanks to her !!! I won the lottery when it came to mothers … not so much when it came to fathers. It seems indeed fitting that this thread started on Groundhog Day!. Lol. It’s one of y top five favorite movies and happens to also be my step-dad’s birth date. Que the X-Files theme … ---

I can’t believe I’m just seeing this post. I was the screaming boy preacher. So here is the update. I’m now 35 yrs old. I have NEVER had any regrets for the preaching I did as a kid. I was never forced to do anything. It was my choice. As for the present day, my beliefs are still in the King James Bible. I have a wonderful wife of 15 years and 2 kids. My kids go to a Christian school. I have a well paying job and live a very happy life. I used to fight tough man contests but now just lift weights to stay in shape. My father and I are as close as any father and son could possibly be. Hes done more for me than I could ever repay. He’s the greatest man I know. So to many people’s disappointment I did not grow up a lunatic or a dope head or in mental institution. ---

This board continues to amaze me. And this thread in particular. Welcome, Duffy (assuming you’re still going by “Duffy”) and thanks for checking in. I don’t think people _wanted_ you to become a lunatic, drug addict or rabid atheist, but so many children who are thrust into the spotlight subsequently go off the rails in various ways that it’s almost a surprise that you didn’t. I’ll be intrigued to see if your half-sibling comes back to comment or is otherwise in touch. ---

I’m reserving judgment as always but it has happened here before - there was the case of the obscure noble with the really long name which escapes me, whose mother popped up (mostly to yell at us), and J. Michael Straczynski himself once responded in a Babylon 5 thread. SDMB threads often get high Google rankings and famous self-Googlers do occasionally find their way here. ---

Actually a link to this thread was posted in a local online forum. Which is how I came across it. Furthermore I could care less who believes its me. I was just being giving an update about my life since there was people interested to know. As far as a reaction to what draddard said, I don’t know what you want me to say. Before January of 1981 my father was a drunken, cigarette sucking, fornicator. Then The Lord saved him and he hasn’t been the same since. And to answer the last question YES I am very proud of my father and no he is not a racist. He just believes the BIBLE as do I. ---

I am not sure what you are trying to say Simple. Yes, I am Mormon, but I think because I was not raised Mormon I have a bit different of a world view than some in the church. Plus I still think for myself and weigh my own values and ethos against what I am taught at church and make my own decisions. Sometimes that jives with the majority of my peers, sometimes it doesn’t. I had a very interesting discussion about that in another thread with some ex-Mos and learned a lot about myself and why I believe what I do. I still think calling someone who is gay a faggot is bigotry. You can believe in the Bible with spewing hate and calling people names. And P.S. It’s not “my church.” It’s a church. I don’t own it.
