The Times article also says it looks like Paterson will pick Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand to replace Clinton. She’s from the 20th District, which includes Saratoga Springs.
I am hoping that he’ll choose Gillibrand, if only to spread out some of the state’s power back to upstate. Having said that, I still stand by what I’ve been saying all along - as long as he chooses no one with NYS Legislature experience, I’ll be satisfied.
I disagree. Jackie was pleasant, stylish, highly educated in the arts, charming and gracious. She was also savvy and not only knew and understood her role as First Lady, but delivered on it in such a way as to exceed anyone’s expectations. She was also, as her comportment following JFK’s assassination showed, a very, very tough woman.
Caroline on the other hand, is a petulant, arrogant, entitled and somewhat beligerent little brat who wants everything done on her own terms and clearly can’t be arsed to construct an intelligent rationale for her candidacy nor to moderate her behavior enough to win the support of New Yorkers and NY power brokers who otherwise wanted to support her.
Argh! The attacks over the Senate choice are starting. With this lovely piece of idiocy from someone who is normally a voice of reason in the press: Maureen Dowd.
A couple of highlights:
And we need an inarticulate woman who caves at any hint of a hard question in the Senate, why?
Then there’s this accusation:
Was Ms. Dowd actually watching the same effing press conferences the rest of us were?
For that matter she goes into conspiracy theory territory, claiming that it’s part of a Clinton plot to get back at Ted. WTF?
(And let’s not forget that her idea of what’s good for the country seems to be what’s good for NYC.)
