In that case you need to change the traffic laws. Here, bicycles used on public streets need the following things:
Two brake systems independet of each other
a bright bell
An active white light in front
a passive white reflector in front
an active red light in back
a passive red reflector in back
orange reflectors on the pedals
orange reflectors in the spokes
If you are caught without these systems or with non-working systems, you will get a fine from a traffic cop, depending on how important the system is, the fine can be quite high.
I don’t care whether they are obeying the law or not. I hate them all. I focus my hate primarily on the the ones who have attire made specifically for biking…special shoes, men who shave their legs. It makes me want to puke & run them off the road.
There’s actually a reason that most bicyclists wear cycling shoes, cycling tights, a helmet etcetera: It’s functional. I don’t wear cycling shoes to look cool, I wear them because it makes cycling more comfortable. I don’t wear bike pants to annoy you with a clear view of my ass, I wear them because they’re more comfortable to ride in.
Hate away, it doesn’t bother me one millimeter. But if you cut me off or create a dangerous situation just to show me what you think about cyclists, be prepared for a dent in your car’s roof.
Your “hate” doesn’t bother me. What bothers me are the actions of quite a few a$$holes sharing those sentiments. Because they express those sentiments by creating some kind of dangerous and probably dangerous (for the cyclist) situation just to illustrate their stupid opinions.
Well I guess that could be claimed as “mitigating circumstances”. And as long as you - as opposed to a few other drivers I’ve encountered - don’t actively try to kill me, I can live quite well with your “hate”.
I try to treat others as I would like to be treated. I definitely don’t want to be run off the road. Quite possibly, most of you are a great lot. If I met you & then found out you were a cyclist, I would not instantly hate you. To be quite frank, I can’t understand how anyone would be brave enough to ride the roads on bikes with the way people drive today. (I really am against the shaved male legs though) When I see someone on a bike, I think instant wreck, I get away from them as soon as possible.
As for Mr. Miskatonic, who knows what kind of fantasies you might have that could appall others? For someone who references Lovecraft with his moniker, I would think you’d be more appreciative of fantasy.
None that involve actual violence towards others for simply wearing different clothes.
You have mixed-up fantasies of the fictional variety with the more disturbing fantasies of actually hurting real people for simply not wearing of approved clothing. If you cannot discern this difference you have a serious problem.
Weak arguments Mr. Miskatonic…& not really all that well thought out. Fantasies, no matter what the subject matter are still just that unless you take action on them, plus, it is not that much of a fantasy as I do not dream of crushing cyclists with my car or running them off the road. Frankly, I really do not think of them unless I see one, so it was more along the lines of an impulsive thought brought about by the thread topic at hand.
Uh, no. They are not ‘weak arguments’. You expressed fantasies of violent actions against people for simply dressing in a manner you disapprove of. Nothing ‘weak’ about that. What you wrote is far away from fictional fantasy in books.
Um, yes, they are weak because I can imagine you there, frothing at the mouth over what kind of fantasies are morally wrong when that is not even the point of the thread. It is like you are desperately trying to start another argument in the hopes you might win & thus feel vindicated for whatever has you so upset. It is ridiculous to get all crazy over a comment on a message board, so you must be trying to get all your aggression out on-line:)
