They have yet to fail to turn my stomach. Who is the artist and what is that special gift that he/she posesses that never fails to turn my stomach. The pictures depict the subject (regardless of what it is) in the most jeuvenile, retarded, gross and unimaginitive way. To whom must one appeal to make it stop? These weekly attrocities detract tremendously from what is an otherwise wonderful site. ---

For sure, Rembrant it ain’t. Some twenty years or so ago, I stumbled across The Straight Dope, C. A.'s first book. A few years later, I’d lost it. But I seem to recall that the illustrations were pretty much by the same hand as today’s. I could be wrong, of course - it’s been a long time. But if I’m not, then I say let’s keep the winning streak going. It’s always refreshing to see a picture that really is worth 1000 words. ---

The artist is Slug Signorino and we love him. Given that he takes the piss out of **Cecil** it is clear that no-one can stop him. IMHO his illustrations are an essential part of The Straight Dope, and if you don’t like it, you can suck strangely-shaped smoke-shrouded appendages. picmr ---

I like Slug’s work. I have liked it since my first Cecil column (not in 1973, but it feels like that long ago). You don’t. I’m glad you’re so mature and discriminating. So, no problems, right? You have your opinion, I’ll have mine. But if you want to denigrate someone whose cartoons many here enjoy and respect, be prepared to get flamed. Unless you _enjoy_ walking into someone’s house and telling them how ugly their furniture is . . . ---

Sorry and thanks for the spell check. That’s pencil _toting_ vandal. … and no I don’t think it’s an insult. It’s a critique - an admitedly subjective one at that. Notice my OP is generously seeded with references on what effect the alleged art has on me. I never suggested it has to have that same effect on everyone else. I put this in the Pit because it is kind of a rant. Still, it’s my opinion and I’m sticking with it. If you favour depictions of predictably large assed subjects with banana shaped breasts and what looks like feces covered extremetes then feel free to disagree. Pictures, like words, can be made to involve, inform and amuse the observer or they can serve to disinterest and even revolt same - it largely depends on the artist’s talents. Of course there is no accounting for taste…😃 ---

The man in the illustration sports D-cup sized breasts, while the woman has two erect penises on her chest. Seems like a pretty conventional Slug drawing to me.
