I’m sorry to hear that. It wasn’t my good luck thoughts was it?

Did you blow the interview or just come away with the feeling that you didn’t want it?

I didn’t blow the interview, but I didn’t ace it, and the next candidate did.

:frowning: As you say: On to the next one!

That sucks, Quartz. I’m so sorry.

I’ve exhausted my state unemployment, and have now started the federal extension. At this point I’d settle for a part-time job that would extend how long it takes my benefits to run out. Virtually every day there’s news that another company is having big layoffs, and the auto dealers are expecting to be decimated, dumping more unemployed on the market. If only there was an ammunition plant in town…

I haven’t posted in a while, mostly because I have absolutely nothing to report, other than I think the new tendency to not even tell people you’ve interviewed that they didn’t get the job is completely fucking obnoxious. Equally obnoxious is interviewing people when you have no intention of hiring anyone. Good use of your people’s time.

With that part of the rant out of the way, all I can say is that it is a complete fucking job wasteland out there. Everyone looking has my sympathies and I’m sending out good thoughts.

Here’s another twist, quite common at colleges and universities:

Fly the job ad all over the place because you are legally required to do so. Encourage people to apply. But the hiring committee already has someone in mind. Or at least they have a general idea of who they want already. But everybody else gets to waste their time and get their hopes up. Those who are extremely qualified, experienced, have good evaluations, many years of service, etc. probably won’t even get an interview…because there’s some bright youngster fresh out of grad school who happens to fit the ethnic or whatever profile they need for that particular year (but there are no official hiring quotas), and that is the person who is going to be hired. Youth is chosen over experience, the people who’ve been there for a long time are taken for granted and pushed aside, and the hiring committee wants whoever will “fit in” but won’t tell you exactly what they mean by that. And every once in a while they throw you a curve just so you can’t really prove a pattern.

This is not to say that the whole thing is unfair all the time at all campuses, but I have heard so many similar accounts from colleagues all over the place that I can no longer consider it a mere coincidence.

Unfortunately these are not new tendencies. I’ve encountered them since I first entered the job market 30 years ago, and they weren’t new then either. They’re maybe a bit more widespread since it’s just cheaper to ignore everyone after the interview but the person you hire.

So how come I, the young energetic fresh out of college youngster can’t get a damn interview?
The way it seems to me, is that no companies want us young’ns because they don’t wanna chance what little jobs they have on someone who might screw it up with inexperience. I can’t find a job that doesn’t require at least 2 years prior experience, I apply for them anyway, but I don’t have 6 months experience cuz I can’t get a job…thus beginnith the cycle of death…

I think the grass is always greener on the other side syndrome is to blame here.

In the midst of yet another revision of my resume … sigh …

:frowning: I hope this one does the trick!

It should – this one, you play it backwards, it says “Paul is dead.”

SOMEONE CALL ME.

I NEED A JOB.

Had to get that off my chest.

Finally got a response for two jobs I have been calling and calling and calling about. And the news isn’t good.

One job finally E-mailed me to say basically “We hear you, stop calling us” (but they used my name, so at least I got through…the job is still on monster however.)

And the one today (the one I wanted more) told me they are no longer “looking to fill the position at this time”.

Sigh…this just isn’t fair anymore :(:(:frowning:

I finally have a job interview tomorrow for a position I want very, very badly. This is the one that my high school friend hooked me up with.

Send some good karma my way!!

(And I’m really sorry Sir. You are right, it isn’t fair. If I don’t get this one I’m back to square one.)

It seems Canada’s doing much better with the recession. Reading this thread is just depressing. Hopefully you’ll have some good news to report soon, PeacePlease. Good luck.

Sorry to hear your news Sir T-Cups.

Good luck PeacePlease!

Back to drawing board for me also. The job was mine but the beancounters decided the job doesn’t need to be filled.

Let’s go PeacePlease!
It’s been ages since someone had good news on this board…
