“Thank You For Not Smoking” is a real hoot. I read it because a Doper recommended it. **rjk** , please note that any delay in your book arrival is my fault, as I did not realize Another Primate had sent me her email update. She only just got your name, interests, and address. And as for **Asylum** , I got my books and I am thrilled. I am not a huge comics fan, but I’m really intrigued by the whole phenomenon. And I realize as I read it that I used to marvel (good pun, eh) at how incredibly effective Bloom County always was despite what I’ve thought of as a limiting medium… so I think I’m going to love the book on that. I caught my Dad reading it last night. I have never read Slaughterhouse Five and it’s been my shame that I haven’t. So now I will! Yahoo! Great choices! ---

Well I got my books from England. I’m sorry but I don’t remember who sent them, or even the names of the books, since I don’t have the stuff with me. The first one I got is a 1920’s mystery, I haven’t really looked at it yet I just remember what it was supposed to be about. The other, of which I’ve started to read, is about an English Nuclear missle site and the main character has accidently taken some material out of the place and is trying to get it back in. I’ve only read a little bit but so far it’s pretty funny. Sorry I can’t remember your name off the top of my head though. But I do like the books. :mad: ---

I’m wondering, **lurker b** dear, have you received a package from the wilds of Kentucky? I must add my 2 cents worth in against the Oprahphobes – these books stand alone, apart from their Oprahness. Barbara Kingsolver is a wonderful writer. I recommend Prodigal Summer, but all her books are good. I’d love House of Sand and Fog, **Cranks**! I haven’t read it and it’s gotten raves from my book buddies. ---

Good deal. I was wondering if you had received the books I sent you or not **Cranky**. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have (multiple times) and if you do I have a few recommendations to make on other books to read concerning similar interests. Also I have neither received a book or heard word on who is sending me one and would appreciate an update. ---

For those of you who haven’t heard, are dying of curiosity, and must know, I will reveal your people: Alex, your person is FriendRob. He lives in MD so it ought not be an international delay. Asylum, your sender is Res Ipsa Loquitor. He’s here in Ann Arbor but I think he might very well have been on a long Easter break. hodge, I’ll keep my mouth shut since you seem to like being tortured by suspense. When I get back from ChiDope I’ll send a gentle nag. If people got unexpectedly busy and are finding it hard to get books shipped off, I am 100% confident we can get others to send you books in the interim. Many people expressed how hard it was going to be to choose which books to send, so I know they have extras. It seems nearly everyone is chomping at the bit to talk about books together! ---

This is my thank you to **Leifsmama** , who sent me a very cool looking book, _Phantom_, that is a retelling of _The Phantom of the Opera_. I’ve only just started thumbing through it at work, but it already seems very interesting PLUS it takes place in Paris. That’s one of my favorite cities and I always adore reading books set there because it is almost like visiting. And I should add I sent out my books to my recipient this week. I don’t want to reveal my recipient’s lest that person be enjoying the suspense, but I wanted to let **Cranky** know (so she could pass the info along in case my recipient is asking!). It’s fun reading about all the books that people are getting! ---

I did indeed gripe too soon! Since pack mules were _not_ employed, my package from **Cranky** arrived sometime in the past couple hours. I’ve been holed up in my office with the door shut, and the box was leaning up against it when I emerged for some human contact a little while ago. Anyway, I’m very pleased with my selections. First is _Daughter of the Forest_ by Juliet Marillier, which I’ve never heard of but I’m very anxious to read! I’m not a devotee of fantasy, but I did make it through an entire series about dragons and threads from the skies and whatnot. Your recommenation makes it very attractive! The second is _Plainsong_ by Kent Haruf, a very good choice indeed, as I have been recommending it myself for the past several weeks! As luck would have it, I just read it a few weeks ago (and published in 1999, it was!) – but it was a library copy and I’m very happy to have one of my very own! I’m a big re-reader. Thank you so much Cranky! I’ll cherish them both! ---
