Of all the choices I expected to be pondering at this pick, this is pretty much the _only_ one I didn’t consider. After much heartache and second-thoughting, I will go with the experts and select: 1.06 Sammy Watkins, WR, Buffalo. Petey is on the clock. ETA: I guess I’ll post a message in the Yahoo! forum since he doesn’t have an SDMB account (right?) ---

He does have a Straight Dope account, he just very seldom posts. Anyway, you should send him an email via Yahoo, not just post in the forum on the league page (which I assume is what you did). Can’t believe Watkins fell that far. See, I think we’re in some evil alternate universe. Normally, I’d be picking right in the middle of Round 1 (like always), and I’d be forced into taking the WR who I absolutely don’t need but who inexplicably fell further than he should have (Dez Bryant, Michael Floyd, DeAndre Hopkins). ---

I would have loved to take one of the WRs, but I needed a TE badly, and West has to much upside to pass up. ---

This draft takes the form of the actual NFL draft sometimes instead of a fantasy draft. Most need to draft for need rather than best available. I’m okay at WR, not that I don’t need help, but that I had more of a pressing need at TE, and to a lesser extent RB. This equates to some players falling when they wouldn’t otherwise in a redraft league. ---

I actually watched a Towson game or three last year and was really impressed with West. I had him as my #3 RB, and didn’t think he last until my next pick at 2.04. I probably reached a bit, but with the premium that RB have in this league I don’t think its an absurd reach. Now if he doesn’t pan out, it really hurts because I passed up so many good WRs. ---
